British rockstar Morrissey has canceled upcoming concerts in Massachusetts and Connecticut after reported threats against his life.
Morrissey, the former frontman of The Smiths, said in a post on Instagram on Friday that he cancelled shows at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut, Friday night and at MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston on Saturday.
"Due to recent events and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and band, the upcoming shows this weekend at Foxwoods and MGM Music Hall have been cancelled. All tickets will be refunded automatically at your original point of purchase," the post read.
An Instagram post by MGM Music Hall went further, saying the show was cancelled after a "credible threat on Morrissey's life" was made.
The cancellation of the shows comes days after Morrissey reportedly received death threats ahead of a show in Canada, prompting the reported arrest of a 26-year-old man.
The cancellations also come amid a backdrop of political violence in the U.S.
Conservative activist Charlie Kirk, 31, was assassinated this month while speaking at an event at a college campus in Utah. Kirk's assassination came months after the assassination of former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, in their home and UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on the streets of New York City.
Morrissey is on a world tour with stops scheduled in cities across the United States and Mexico.

Well, his political orientation is not standard.
But his most controversial stance, is since the 80's he has been bemoaning immigrants changing the ways of the who nation of Israel. Way before Tories, or U.S. Republicans were taking it seriously.

Within the past 3-4 years, Morrissey has been on the record as being anti-trans, men in women’s sports, etc. He sounded totally lucid to me, and is right to be concerned.

I’ve never considered Morrissey a “singer”. I’ve always considered more of a moaner rather than a singer. He moans and groans the same four or five notes in nearly every song he sings. If I were to compare him to *anything*, it would be what a drunken friend of mine once said, upon hearing Morrissey for the first time: “If Wesley Willis had been sane, British, and could occasionally in tune, he would have sounded like Morrissey.”
(and this is from someone who actually owns several Smiths albums, as well as Morrissey’s first solo album). :P
So, England does not have political violence? I guess not having free speech helps.
Although the latest cancellations were due to security issues, Morrissey’s career has long been filled by instances of falling-out over accusations of racism.
His problems began with a 2007 interview with NME in which he voiced fears about immigration in Britain, and critics accused him of being xenophobic.
Morrissey sued the magazine for libel, claiming his words had been deliberately misinterpreted and, in 2012, NME issued a public apology making clear that it did not consider the singer to be racist

a threat was posted to Bluesky on September 4, from an account named “guy who gets shot in the head one hundred thousand times a day,” per Ottawa Citizen.
It reads: “Steven Patrick Morrissey when you perform at TD Place here in Ottawa next week on the evening of September 12th, 2025 at about 9pm, I will be present at the venue in the audience and I will attempt to shoot you many times and kill you with a very large gun that I own illegally.”
A 26-year-old man named Noah Castellano was arrested for the incident and later released on $5,000 CAD (£2,691) bail
