2016, that’s about when BMW went totally downhill.

The BMW 3 Series was last included on Car and Driver’s 10Best list in 2023. It had previously made the list for 22 consecutive years, from 1992 through 2014, but the streak was broken in 2015.

Bemeers are design to last 30,000 miles...then just fall apart.

Maybe 60,000, but that's a problem. Quality has noticeably gone downhill over the past 10 years.

Last year I bought a 2013 BMW M3 Convertible, the last year of the V8, 44k miles.

I’m treating it well, hopefully it returns the favor!

“2016, that’s about when BMW went totally downhill”

Wife had a 5 series when we met in 2001.

So glad when we got rid of it in 2003! On first name basis with their service techs.

Toyota/Lexus since. Only normal service in 22 years.

Knock on wood, but so far my (used) 2017 MINI is holding up nicely. I’ve had it for more than a year now, and I absolutely love it.

I don’t drive it very often, though. It’s my “Ice Cream Car” — a good friend uses that phrase for a fun, weekend car.

No, they are designed to create a long term money stream for their PARTS & SERVICE departments.
Which they get a large portion of the repairs.

I think they decided to follow the example of Mercedes. Another luxury auto brand that is very expensive to repair and maintain.

Which is why I just bought a 2011 Lexus IS350C. It is a naturally aspirated V6 that was MADE IN JAPAN. I am the second owner. It came from Florida. Where it was maintained exclusively by the Lexus dealership that sold it.

Hopefully the M3 has better calipers, the standard E90 has crappy ones that go at about 8-10 years or 80,000 miles. Hopefully the rack doesn't go, that's a 4k plus job. Bilsteins may leak at 100k......not to mention other electronics.

Yes, they've built a pretty solid reputation, so far

Bought a 2010 128i in 2022 for, what I thought was a smoking deal of $5,000.

Into it for about the same amount since then for maintenance/repair. Currently not running; waiting for me to replace a rear ABS sensor.

Well, that’s only about $33/mile. Not bad, if you’re into wasting money.

My 2015 Mini is still running well, but most mechanics will not even touch it. They just shake their heads and waive me off. Even Jiffy Lube has only one store in my area which will service it.

"water-injection system...49-horsepower gain over the standard M4...sprays water into the intake manifold to cool the pressurized air-fuel mixture for more efficient combustion"

Water injection into a gasoline internal combustion engine always amazes me. It's counter-intuitive because you'd think that would rob engine power and reduce engine efficiency. But water injection in a gasoline internal combustion engine doesn't necessarily reduce overall engine efficiency. Here's why:

The basic warranty is for 4 years or 50K miles or what ever comes first.
