Well, World War II meat rationing didn’t end until 1954, an the 50’s were lean times or them, so I’, not sure how god it was then.

I love Fish ‘n Chips. When I was in England, I was disappointed in the several samples I had. They all seemed greasy and bland. Didn’t stop me from trying them. Had some excellent fish ‘n chips in Sweden of all places. Best I’ve ever had was in Churchill’s Pub in Savannah Ga. Gotta get back there soon....

We have a pair of British restaurants in the Huntsville AL area that make authentic British fish and chips, down to the (food safe) newspaper wrapping and mushy peas.

There's a neighborhood bar here Mt. Clemens, MI, that was famous for its Friday perch dinners.

My friend's sister-in-law was in town visiting from Flagstaff, AZ. On a Friday night, they went to the bar for dinner and she asked the bar owner for the batter recipe, and he gave it to her.

She took it back to AZ with her and gave it to the owner of her favorite bar and the owner started his own Friday perch dinner specials that resulted in sell out crowds and lines every Friday night.

I would eat that anytime! Even the mushy peas, that I have never tasted. I will need some ketchup for my “chips”.

I’ve never thought the mushy peas look very good, but the fish and chips always look wonderful.
