I called him "he," and we disagree. He's a productive member of society (I won't tell you his profession out of respect for his privacy). He stays relatively private in his goofy behavior. He causes no one any trouble and pays a lot in taxes. I've known him for 30 years, 27 since his "transition." He's been in a stable relationship most of that time with his (also trans) "wife." He'd be fine with a gun if he doesn't already have one.
Bottom line: If a court can issue a finding that a person is a danger to society at large, they should be incarcerated or institutionalized as the situation demands. Only then should they be deprived of the right of armed self-defense.
