President Donald Trump has a new city in his sights after he threatened to send the National Guard into Chicago and Baltimore in the name of fighting crime and deporting undocumented immigrants.
Trump has thus far targeted Democratic-run cities in Democratic-run states, but this time could be different, as the president eyes New Orleans — a Democratic-run “blue” city in the red state of Louisiana.
Trump told reporters in the Oval Office Wednesday, “So we’re making a determination now. Do we go to Chicago? Do we go to a place like New Orleans, where we have a great governor, Jeff Landry, who wants us to come in and straighten out a very nice section of this country that’s become quite, you know, quite tough, quite bad.”
He added, “You have New Orleans, which has a crime problem. We’ll straighten that out in two weeks, easier than D.C.”
Trump sent federalized troops into Los Angeles in early June, which a federal judge ruled this week was an illegal move. In a 52-page decision, Senior District Judge Charles Breyer barred the administration from deploying troops to engage in civilian law enforcement. Some 300 troops remain in L.A. and will be restricted in what they can do following Breyer’s ruling. The Department of Justice is appealing the decision.
Do you live and work in D.C.? Silver Spring is in Maryland, not D.C.
What Trump is doing is defining the Democratic Party, and reversing it from the days when Republicans allowed themselves to be defined by the Democratic Party.
Very bad precedent IMO.
Very bad precedent IMO.
As if the Rats care about precedents.
The stats aren't lying here, you are just ignorant.
“How is it the news hasn’t figured out yet that PDJT is sending help to cities and not states?”
Excellent point. Maybe the left doesn’t want the focus to be on democrat run cities. Hmmm.
Keep that head in the sand, pal.
I went to New Orleans probably 30 years ago with a friend I worked with. My first experience on a public street in the daytime there, was that some black kid moved up on me to take my purse. There was no other reason for him to be so close, or to collide with me as he tried. I was a Correctional Sergeant at the time, and I made evading moves to avoid physical contact with him. He ran off. After that day, for the rest of the time I was in New Orleans, I carried my purse cross-wise across my body, not on my shoulder. Even back all those years ago, they were telling tourists not to travel outside the French Quarter, and not to go to any of the cemetery's alone, so I stuck to tour groups. I went back to New Orleans a couple of years later by myself. I parked my car in the French Quarter and walked around to do some shopping. I had no problems at all. Most of the trip was spent visiting the plantations on the outskirts of New Orleans anyway, so no crowds to come in contact with.
Uh, what’s happening CC?
They still call it the White House
But that’s a temporary condition, too
Can you dig it, CC?
To each his reach
And if I don’t cop, it ain’t mine to have
But I’ll be reachin’ for ya
‘Cause I love ya, CC
Right on
There’s a lot of chocolate cities, around
We’ve got Newark, we’ve got Gary
Somebody told me we got L.A.
And we’re working on Atlanta
But you’re the capital, CC
Gainin’ on ya!
Get down
Gainin’ on ya!
Movin’ in and on ya
Gainin’ on ya!
Can’t you feel my breath, heh
Gainin’ on ya!
All up around your neck, heh heh
Hey, CC!
They say your jivin’ game, it can’t be changed
But on the positive side
You’re my piece of the rock
And I love you, CC
Can you dig it?
Hey, uh, we didn’t get our forty acres and a mule
But we did get you, CC, heh, yeah
Gainin’ on ya
Movin’ in and around ya
God bless CC and its vanilla suburbs
Gainin’ on ya! What’s happenin’ blood
Yeah!
What’s happening, black?
Brother black, blood even
Yeah-ahh, just funnin’
Gettin’ down
Ah, blood to blood
Ah, players to ladies
The last percentage count was eighty
You don’t need the bullet when you got the ballot
Are you up for the downstroke, CC?
Chocolate city
Are you with me out there?
And when they come to march on ya
Tell ‘em to make sure they got their James Brown pass
And don’t be surprised if Ali is in the White House
Reverend Ike, Secretary of the Treasure
Richard Pryor, Minister of Education
Stevie Wonder, Secretary of FINE arts
And Miss Aretha Franklin, the First Lady
Are you out there, CC?
A chocolate city is no dream
It’s my piece of the rock and I dig you, CC
God bless Chocolate City and its (gainin’ on ya!) vanilla suburbs
Can y’all get to that?
Gainin’ on ya!
Gainin’ on ya!
Then what is the answer when your state and local government refuse to enforce the law, or just release perps ROR? There’s so much corruption here, I don’t think there’s voting any democrat out. Chicago hasn’t had a republican mayor in about a century.
And some of us can’t afford to leave because every cent goes towards living expenses.
Now you believe government stats??
I live in Miami. I visit my kids in Silver Spring frequently, and that usually involves time in the city too.
If you look at the DC crime map...
...you would see that Georgetown is one of the higher crime districts in DC.
There high plenty of high crime areas these days in up scale urban neighborhoods.
Popular approval or disapproval was not in my comments because my concern is good policy, not good polls nor good trolling.
If you don't live there full time, then you should leave the decision of federal troops helping law enforcement, to the people who live and work there 24/7, and have benefited from it. If you've seen any of the videos from mostly black D.C. residents posted here, you'll find they are in favor of it, and have thanked President Trump for doing so. The fact that there hadn't been a murder there for a period of 12 days is an unusual incident in itself, and should be lauded.
I went to Silver Spring last year to visit my relatives, and I felt like I was the only Republican in the entire town.
It's been a very bad precedent to allow RAT politicians to destroy this country's big cities. Taxpayer money is wasted on illegals, and other frivolous crap, instead of being spent on improving law enforcement in these cities. Police Departments are the first agencies to get defunded by corrupt RAT politicians. These RAT-run cities aren't allowing the police to enforce the laws. They want them to turn a blind eye to it, and walk away, so they can claim that violent crime is down. That doesn't help anyone except the RAT politician.
What good is having a police force if you're not going to allow them to do the job they were hired to do? Now that's wasted money right there. Federal troops are allowing the cops to do their job. They're not doing the arresting. They are the back-up team to ensure that those police officers can safely perform the job they took an oath to do. There is nothing worse for morale than telling a police officer not to do their job. And it's the same way with our military. Unfortunately, there have been Presidents who wouldn't allow them to do the job they were trained to do, and it took a toll on the morale in our Armed Forces.
Not the job of the federal government. Up to the states. We need to tax less at the federal level and do less using it to coerce states.
I can believe that.
I just did a search for the crime rate of Silver Spring, Maryland, and this is what came up:
"Silver Spring, Maryland has a crime rate of 29.46 per 1,000 residents, which is considered relatively high. The southwest part of the city is generally considered the safest. The rate of violent crime is 4.101 per 1,000 residents."
