Reminds me of song lyrics in William Shatner’s version of “Common People “:
“Because you think it’s cool to be poor “….
“Because you think it’s cool to be poor “
She stated earlier that she received this assignment because she has covered so many assignments since Russia invaded.
However, I know there exists a very different culture between urban and rural life. My husband came from a rural farm environment in Ohio and I grew up in Detroit.
Kind of like the old Television show “Green Acres!” LOL
I grew up poor in a close to major city comfortable suburb. My husband came from a small middle West farm community. There are major differences. He was extremely careful about his private business and got very angry if I disclosed somewhat personal information to friends. I finally realized that in his community, everyone knew everyone else’s business unless you were extremely secretive. Then they talked about it so soon the whole community knew your personal business. Also people were up early and often outside so they could see things you might not notice.
His town of less than 500 was near a college town of 20,000+ people. A married professor was having an affair with a woman in the little town. Early one morning he was jogging back to his hidden car very early in the morning. A nice old lady was out front sweeping her walkway when he jogged past. She said innocently, “Why Prof. X, you should not be running with your bad heart.” It probably did not occur to her that he had been visiting a woman in this village. But, I bet when she mentioned she was concerned about Prof. X’s heart, soon the whole community figured out who he had been visiting. That woman probably had a lot of explaining to do, or got strange looks from her neighbors.
