I know nostalgia, but it is history.
I'll give one thing to Ed Sullivan, all the bands had to perform live, not lip sync.
Flame away.
The single version of Light My Fire was such a huge hit that the radio stations playing it eventually played “the long version.” It was a critical step toward broadcasting album rock.
“defied Ed Sullivan, by keeping the word “higher” in the lyrics of “Light my Fire”
-
And wasn’t that the last time Sullivan had them on?

Side note, as I understand it, Morrison could be a proper jerk.
Also, I thought Val Kilmer did a terrific job portraying him.
That was the first and last appearance of The Doors on the Ed Sullivan show!
The Doors live on...
There is a wonderful documentary on Ed Sullivan called “Sunday Best: The Untold Story of Ed Sullivan” (not sure on which streaming service).
Ed Sullivan insisted on featuring black singers and groups that other shows wouldn’t have.
“But we told you not to say the word ‘higher!’”
Morrison's reply was one for the ages: "We just DID the Ed Sullivan Show."
Meanwhile, The Stones caved in and sang “Let’s Spend Some Time Together”, with Mick rolling his eyes.
Great scene from the movie if you remember it...
Great band. Saw then live twice: Madison Square Garden, again at the Felt forum. I’m giving my age away. Morrison croaked in 1971.
“Let me tell you something. We need a two and a half hour movie about the Doors? Folks, no we don’t. I can sum it up for you in five seconds, ok...... I’m drunk. I’m nobody. I’m drunk. I’m famous. I’m drunk. I’m f______ dead. There’s the whole movie, ok!? ‘Big Fat Dead Guy In A Bath Tub’, there’s your title for you.”

yeh- but some of the chicks in that movie made it worth watching...
Oh nostalgia!
Thanks for posting
Got stuck in traffic trying to get to a Doors concert in Pittsburgh
Looked in rearview mirror
Morrison was in car behind us!
Sums up my feelings about Jim Morrison perfectly.
The most underrated band of the 60s.
True innovators who captured the zeitgeist.
On a very solid R&B foundation.
“.. And wasn’t that the last time Sullivan had them on?”
Yes and after being told the Doors would never be invited back Morrison had the perfect response —
“Hey, man. We just did the Sullivan Show”.
I loved that they had to do everything live. Lip sync ruined everything. Morrison had a good voice but he was a total lop of a person, IMO. He would have never grown up.
