Let’s get this out of the way immediately: Week 1 in college football can be misleading.
Recent history is littered with season openers that didn’t affect the next dozen weeks like we thought they would. Drawing season-long conclusions based on one weekend’s worth of games is a perilous endeavor. Do it at your own risk.
But make no mistake. Saturday wasn't a great day for the SEC. And could have been a lot worse if No. 9 LSU hadn't snapped a five-game Week 1 losing streak against No. 4 Clemson.
Texas entered 2025 as the preseason No. 1 team in the AP Top 25 for the first time and won’t spend a second set of rankings at that spot after losing 14-7 at No. 3 Ohio State. The Longhorns were slight underdogs to the defending national champions before kickoff.

What will nut job "Bama fans think up to drive DeBoer out of Tuscaloosa that tops Auburn fans spreading rumors that Brian Harsin was in an extramarital affair. DeBoer's buyout is $63 MM. Ty Simpson appears to be a Just Another Guy level QB. The team is undisciplined and sloppy. It was wild watching Seminole OC Gus Malzahn once again being 'Bama's nemesis.
Give credit to Coach Brian Apoplectic Kelly reviving LSU's defense.
Because manning was only throwing 37% accuracy. It was quite bad honestly.
Hopefully it was just nerves, but if not...uh oh.
Stanford, member of the ACC, lost in Hawaii. Something wrong there.
*** Why was Sark playing scared with Arch? ***
Good question. I think everyone wonders that.

I have a hard time giving Kelly credit, but perhaps it’s due.
I think I was most impressed with Haynes King (Georgia Tech) for not letting 3 turnovers get to him. He carried the Yellow Jackets on his shoulders.
I really liked Nussmeier’s (LSU QB) interview after the Clemson game, where he gave thanks to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for helping him through the adversity of the game. I saw his mom saying a prayer in the stadium one time when the camera broke over to her.
I hope there really is a revival of faith in these kids. I saw it last year with the Ohio State team. I’m impressed that these young men are leaders on the field and in their communities.
Arch Manning...all hat no horse. 6.8 million?
DeBoer’s buyout is $63 MM
That is good to know. I thought it was closer to 90. IU didn’t win on style points but at least we are still 1-0. And if that doesn’t work out there is always ND. :)
Give credit to Coach Brian Apoplectic Kelly reviving LSU’s defense. ......by bringing back solid DC Blake Baker
Every Noles fan at (central FL) church was temporally ecstatic this morning. Whether the success continues is anyone’s guess.
The Gators played a middle school JV team, so their 55-0 score doesn’t count. Playing USF next week will be a great test for both USF and UF.
What’s wrong is that a college on the west coast can be in Atlantic Coast Conference. These super conferences are whack.
The Gators have a difficult schedule ahead of them. Gonna be a long season.
I’m a bargain! Can I have a paltry $6.3M buyout?
Think of the money you’re saving!
SEC was 13 and 2 yesterday, so I don’t see how the SEC could be said to have lost its dominating position
Believe it or not, Texas beat Ohio State in total passing yards AND total rushing yards.
I guess that happened in the second half, because I did not see that in the first half.
Arch Manning completed just under 60% for the game.
Obviously, a below average passing effort, but not terrible against a rock solid Ohio State defense.
Also - Arch Manning was playing with three new starting receivers and four new starting offensive line men.
I was disappointed with Manning, but he definitely deserves another couple games to see how it all evolves.
Can’t argue with that record.
The SEC is just fine. Two teams lost. No biggie.
As a Gator fan I want all SEC teams to lose every week. The conference is so big now with teams a thousand miles apart I just don’t care about any of them anymore. No more “SEC” chants and I hope they all lose every week. Especially Georgia. Lol.
The season is off to a good start. The USC Trojans won, and the Bruins and Domers lost.
Both Stanford and Cal are in the ACC, which reminds me of the old NFL Western Division, which included the Baltimore Colts.
I hate the big super conferences now. It’s stupid. The NCAA has totally lost its way.
I do, too. The USC Trojans, whom I follow, are in a transcontinental conference in which most of our opponents are more than 1,500 miles away.
California has seven Division 1-A teams, almost enough to form an all-California conference, which could be expanded by throwing in UNLV and Nevada-Reno and maybe the two Div. 1-A Arizona schools. Or we could go back to the old Pac-8.
