The US already has university background checks.

“Red Flag” laws should prevent (for example) trannies from possessing or firearms purchases, and keep them out of law enforcement and the military services.

In favor of red flag laws until someone decides you should be red flagged and your rights taken away.

Define ‘modest restrictions’

They mean outlaw 30 round magazines which would work as well as outlawing meth and fentanyl. A person who wants to shoot up a school isn’t going to let a law stop them. If a gang-banger gets caught with one, they won’t prosecute them anyway.

In Sweden, gun laws are so restrictive, you can buy a full-auto AK on the street and it comes with a free hand grenade.

They are trying to create a false narrative and false reality. None of these are true at all. Total BS brainwashing...

I favor no restrictions.

I favor restrictions but the other way. For example, no child should be allowed to graduate 8th grade without passing a firearm safety course.

In Sweden, gun laws are so restrictive, you can buy a full-auto AK on the street, and it comes with a free hand grenade.

Sweden has a population with one of the higher percentage of firearms owners in Europe. And that is legal firearms owners. About 560,000 people have permits out of a population of ten million people.

That does not count Muslims, who hold illegal firearms, of course.

Permits require six months of membership in a hunting club and passing an examination for each type of firearm desired. Each firearm on a permit must have a separate license, with a maximum of sixteen firearms licenses for each permit. Suppressor licenses may be included with the license for each firearm.

Open carry is prohibited. Firearms must be stored and transported unloaded in locked cases with ammunition stored separately. Hunting or target shooting are the legal uses allowed.

Self-defense using a firearm requires the defender to be in a "situation of peril" and act in a manner that is not "blatantly unjustifiable". There is no presumption of innocence, the defender must provide an affirmative declaration of such if prosecuted.

Ammunition may be sold at pet supply stores. The assumption is that you will buy supplies for hunting dogs, which will go with your party, and those supplies may include ammunition for hunting. Ammunition purchase requires presentation of a firearms license.

I did not see any hand grenades in stock.

and again, you remind me of the specific wording of the 2nd amendment.

“A well regulated militia being necessary............”

It is not about guns. It is about the well trained like minded patriots who are necessary.

How about declaring gang-bangers to be enemy combatants, and any gun crimes they commit should be considered acts of terrorism...netting the perps life in Gitmo.

You have to buy them on the street from Muslims.

and again, you remind me of the specific wording of the 2nd amendment.

Sweden does not have any equivalent to the 2nd amendment. Firearms ownership was historically a privilege of the elites, and the government absolutely does not want to extend that privilege to common citizens. Hence the elaborate permit and licensing requirements.

Pretty much the same as all of the other European countries.

The American 2nd amendment was added to the constitution for the express purpose of retaining an ability by the population to overthrow a tyrannical government which had become unrestrained by voting or petitioning. The Founders had just done that in the preceding decade.

Of course, American government officials have never been happy about this and have blatantly subverted the 2nd amendment for the last 100 years.

As for the "right" of self-defense, government officials are not too happy with that one either. A certain level of violent crimes creates a fearful population which may beg the government to protect them and grant ever-increasing powers to the government to do that. Citizens who forcibly resist thieves, robbers, rapists, and murderers undermine that dynamic.

The politicians in Chicago have depended on local gangsters to put them in office for the last 150 years. That is what is meant by "the Chicago Way". It was good while the money lasted. But it was "other people's money", and it has been running out.

Well, here we are. What cannot continue does not.

Most gun owenere favor some restrictions?

I might favor a sound restrictor. That would be all.

Or a magazine capacity restrictor.

Or a caliber restrictor.

Canada went after the Mini-14 when a moslem woman hater, in 1989 used one in a massacre of women.
His name was listed as Marc Lépine. Years later I found his real name was Gamil Rodrigue Liass Gharbi.

Lépine was born in Montreal, Quebec to French Canadian nurse Monique Lépine and Algerian businessman Rachid Gharbi.

I have read that Nickolas Cruz, who shot up the Parkland school, used only 10 round magazines.
