Yes, but isn’t Kazan the inofficial capital of the Tatar minority in Russia?

The Tatars are, iirc, majority Muslim. Thus, a mosque would be expected in this city. And I always thought that the Tatars and the Russian majority got along reasonably well within Russia.

But of course, I could be wrong…maybe Islamism as a political ideology is growing in Tatarstan, too…
