We were tied up in Newport RI during that event and went south in its wake. It was still very rough out. Came north up behind Hugo... towering swells and that was 4 or 5 days afterwards. But the Bering sea in winter was ungodly at times. Went up towards the Pribilof Islands early spring in ‘77 it was FAC (flat assed calm), really wasn’t expecting that, you could smell the seal and walrus rookeries a good 50 miles away and it took your breath away.
