Great series, a must watch in my opinion!
We really enjoyed it.
I read all the books. I’m amazed that this series does justice to the writer and all the characters. I agree, not woke. No fake diversity
All the characters are disturbed and weird. Like the books. Most British shows are overtly following quotas. Within 5 minutes they trod out an interracial marriage, lesbian families, etc. They can be in the middle of the North Pole and they have a black family. If dept q has diversity, which it does, it’s not waving you in the face. It’s an intense dark show with a lot of humor too
It is a pretty good show. Especially if you want to practice your comprehension of thick UK accents.
We dumped Netflix years ago.
We don’t watch the streaming service or any content it creates.
FWIW.
So it sounds like a cheap imitation of Slough House. Is there any originality left in show biz?
I have started to watch a few times, but now I will give it a try.
even better if it featured Maggie Q.
It was refreshing to see that despite the main character’s abrasiveness his boss was primarily interested in his getting results since it made her and the department look good from a PR perspective. Which also means that as long as he’s getting consistent results she will overlook his idiosyncrasies.
I watch mainly foreign language stuff on MhzChoice and Netflix.
This was a surprise as it was English language, but it was adapted from the Scandinavia.
I just got through watching Skylines on Netflix.
Turkish/Kurdistan rap in Germany.
It was really pretty good with a starring German woman who looked like Andie MacDowell but she could act.
The end was a bit unsatisfying because it was clearly aiming to go into a second season which it didn’t, but I suspect because it was during COVID.
Wife and I really enjoyed it. You have to listen to every sentence. Tight dialogue, sarcasm, etc. It is that will written
I was recently surfing Netflix one evening and came across it. I love detective shows, especially foreign. Doesn’t even matter if they’re in another language, as long as they have English subtitles. I started watching Dept. Q, then binge-watched the entire first season. It was terrific. I look forward to more seasons.
I might give it a watch. I loved Damian Lewis in Billions on Showtime. He was Bobby Axelrod.
It's a bit of copycat of Slow Horses on Apple TV.
Thanks for the heads up on the second season for this show. It’s been in my queue since it first aired. I’ll get to it eventually. I like Matthew Goode. He played Lady Mary’s husband in Downton Abbey, and played the vampire Matthew Clairmont in “Discovery of Witches,” and has been in many other productions as well.
“”Curious if anyone has stumbled upon Dept. Q. Very interesting new series. Refreshing that the lead character is boldly NOT PC. Amazing it was on Netflix.””
Yeah, I’ve seen it. It was good. Looking forward to the 2nd season. Didn’t warm up to the lead character at first though... but he tends to grow on ya. He’s one of those guys that likes to act like an AH but deep down, he’s fighting the good guy in himself.
I enjoyed the series and it has some very good moments and interesting characters (who actually display character). Matthew Goode’s performance is a big departure from his usual posh roles.
Thanks for the heads up. Just checked it out and it seems very good.
