Do you mean Gordon Ramsay, the famous chef - who advised about always reserving for three, haggling with the sommelier, avoiding "specials," etc.? What advice did Dave Ramsey give?
Regards,
And there is most likely a consideration for meal revenue compared to store revenue (for knickknacks etc.)
I would think the core business is driven by the number of meals, and a mix of dinner compared to lunch compared to breakfast.
“I and my family won’t be going back anytime soon.”
I have eaten there exactly twice and that was over 20 years ago. Once was an off site luncheon. The other was to pass-off grand pops antique mission style rocking chair to a cousin. I gave the merch a pass both times.
We go to Chinese buffet restaurants after Christmas day strolls around Williamsburg every year with more anticipation. Cracker barrel just ain’t on the radar...
You forgot Aunt Jemima... God rest her soul...
The CEO said “the company ‘has lost some of its shine’”
That’s what people loved about it; it never HAD “shine”.
We were warned about these new-and-not-improved changes last year, so shouldn’t be surprised.
“...because the customers are probably aging out.”
Odd you say that. I have been thinking lately as I go out and about — Walmart, supermarkets, fast food places, etc., I hardly ever see teenagers.
After enjoying CB for many years, I ate at one two years ago and noticed the food was NOT NEARLY AS GOOD AS IT USED TO BE.
Lousy food is the downfall of Cracker Barrel.
“They could have leveraged the history of CB to introduce some new down home food”
Agree. They don’t offer “down home” food like hash or omelets. (What breakfast place doesn’t serve omelets?) I used to go to Po Folks restaurant and ordered fried crisp chicken livers, which is down home.
“or even didn’t go to college like Charlie Kirk”
And Rush Limbaugh. What a loser! LOL!
“Leftists claim Trump has a big ego, but actually he’s abnormally humble when it comes to revising his decisions quickly if they start to go sideways.”
And, according to everyone who has worked with him, he is willing and eager to get input from everyone when he’s making decisions. And he seriously considers the ideas. That’s a humongous ego — not.
“I can make better at home”
I can, too. I just don’t want to. Every day. For the rest of my life. Arrrgh!
They don’t advertise this, but ... One thing we have appreciated about CB is that most of them allow — even welcome — overnight parking for RVs that are 100% self contained. Have spent many nights in CB parking lots. They assume those travelers will eat at least one meal there — usually two.
“Chain restaurants generally suck.”
Fast food on a plate...
As far as drop in revenues, everyone is hurting and prices rising to the point that retirees on a fixed income like me are almost unable to eat out.
I meet a few guys for lunch every Wednesday and I used to spend a max of $15 for a burger and a beer. Now it's at least $20. Heck, a BLT is now $12
Good food, good service and good price. Do that and they will come.
I never stop at those restaurants. I bring a nicely provisioned cooler bag with multiple freezer packs. I load it with food and drinks that I might otherwise dispose of before locking up and leaving. Cold pizza and salads, sausage sticks, little sandwiches, pitted dates, nuts, cookies, etc. I can find “atmosphere” some other time and place within walking distance of my destination, if not right there in the Hotel or Bed & Breakfast.
Cracker Barrel is not a soul food restaurant. I agree the menu needs revitalized, but most suggestions I keep reading are for soul food.
Country food doesn’t automatically mean the deep south.
“She could be correct, because the customers are probably aging out. However, the solution is not to eliminate the heritage of the company but to offer new things in the style of what made Cracker Barrel famous, down home cooking.”
They already offer the younger adults Mac-n-cheese and chicken fingers. We were hoping they would learn to use a knife and fork.
“I agree the menu needs revitalized, but most suggestions I keep reading are for soul food.”
I vote to add hash, and omelets.
