The specter of Obama still lurks in Washington.
It’s awful how lefties fear-monger about Social Security, but that doesn’t mean it’s not in trouble. It is. We all know it is. Just not how the left portrays it. It’s just groaning under its own weight and sooner or later, likely sooner, the Hill is going to have to tackle it. Being the pedantic, unoriginal cowards that they are, they’ll likely look to the past for how to do it. What’s back there?
Obama.
Obama showed them how they might do it.
Let’s take a walk down memory lane.
Your money, in the form of the CFPB (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau) and your life, in the form of the IPAB (Independent Payment Advisory Board, sometimes known as “the death panel”), are two 2010 agencies which are now dead, or about to be, thank God, but there is where our brave legislators will find their “inspiration” for how to fix Social Security, I am willing to bet. Why? There’s a very specific reason why — a legislative scam — as you will see in a moment.
Let’s review: In March & July 2010 two of the most sweeping pieces of legislation since FDR and LBJ were signed by Obama, creating the IPAB via ObamaCare, and the CFPB via the Dodd-Frank Wall Street “reform” bill. Legislators buried these agencies so deep inside the federal leviathan that they could not simply vote to defund them. This was purposeful. So the only way to kill them, should they or the voters desire it, was to hope the Executive Branch would choose to kill them, or, as is the case with the IPAB, die of neglect.
Thus insulated, they had a mandate from our brave Senators and Representatives: take the unpopular votes

I’m eligible in October and it can’t happen soon enough.
The largest ponzi scheme ever made does not work like that. Sorry we are all in the same boat and about to be swamped when the deep state gets back in power.
I agree it’s a Ponzi scheme. What a shame I’m going to miss out. :(
Obama moved it much further into insolvency when he allowed his little friends to get disability and use it for welfare. The debts of medicade are made much worse by giving it to illegals, absurd.
Some reports say SS can be “fixed” by small extension to the eligibility date as in the past somewhat taking care of the fact we just live too long even though we don’t as much as some other countries.
It won’t be fixed, the can is too easy to kick down the road. At best, I probably have less than 20 years to worry about it. It will be more means tested than it is now, just like Medicare is with IRMA and SS is by taxing it. 85% of mine is taxed now. I figure it will eventually be taken away from me by deeming me ineligible though I paid in at the maximum rate every year for 40 years.
The system is insolvent because it has been poorly managed if it was ever managed at all. With or without SS we are facing a time with a huge indigent geriatric population without enough people to care for them when they become not just penniless but also incapacitated. Benign neglect if not outright murder will become common I expect. Not at all a happy future for growing old.
