How MAGA Went Mainstream at Harvard
Harvard Magazine ^ | Aug 8, 2025 | Nina Pasquini

“I said it before and I’ll say it again,” Rachel Janfaza ’20, an analyst focused on youth politics, wrote. “There really are two Gen Zs.” Her post included a graphic contrasting “Gen Z 1.0,” the liberal-leaning older cohort, with “Gen Z 2.0,” their younger, more conservative peers.

According to Janfaza, the pandemic marked a dividing line. Older Gen Zers were in college when it hit, able to quarantine with roommates and friends; younger ones were still in high school, isolated at home. The two cohorts also came of age in different political climates: Gen Z 1.0 came up during Trump’s first presidency, when resistance meant protesting at the Women’s March or walking out of school for climate action. Gen Z 2.0 grew up under President Joe Biden—disillusioned with institutions, skeptical of pandemic rules, and more likely to lean into contrarian conservatism.

Now, Gen Z 2.0 is filling college campuses around the country, including at Harvard. They’re revitalizing conservative institutions, shifting the boundaries of campus discourse, and getting ready to shape national politics.

Harvard reporting on itself that Harvard has “gone MAGA” should read with a lot of skepticism

Harvard Magazine is a separate organization distinct from Harvard University. They have some objectivity, though as mostly Harvard graduates, the writers may have some similar ideas as Official Harvard.

“more likely to lean into contrarian conservatism”

It’s anti-establishment.

Their Parents drove Accords & Outbacks like Grandpa, and voted for Obunghole and Biden.
Their older siblings ducked/covered and went along like sheep in the Good Times. Some got the last of $5-$10K/yr college, and Parents re-imagined a phony 1960’s they all missed out on.

They feel robbed. The world was turned to shiiiite because pf lazy, greedy, scared basetards.

They’ve had their lives turned to shiiite because of generations of spineless, weak leaders. Like the dregs of Grab Hags, nothing remains.

Young folks today are pissed.
A truly Muscular MAGA is in the offing.
And it’s gonna be phookin glorious!

Objectivity is at isolated points and is nowhere dense in the set of articles and comments.

Abit older than that. The class of ‘23 is very conservative, at least in Michigan.

Politics has something analogous to Newton's third law - every action will eventually have an equal and opposite reaction (although with big time lags, unlike in physics).

If you force-feed college kids at elite universities woke ideology that teaches self-hatred to the white and well-off and valorizes the black, brown, and indigent, it's inevitable that at least some of these kids will rebel against the force-feeding and see it for what it is: self-defeating hypocrisy that runs counter to their own interests.
