People often miscalculate climate choices, a study says. One surprise is owning a dog

It turns out many Americans aren’t great at identifying which personal decisions contribute most to climate change.

A study recently published found that when asked to rank actions, such as swapping a car that uses gasoline for an electric one, carpooling or reducing food waste, participants weren’t very accurate when assessing how much those actions contributed to climate change.

The top three individual actions that help the climate, including avoiding plane flights, choosing not to get a dog and using renewable electricity, were also the three that participants underestimated the most. Meanwhile, the lowest-impact actions were changing to more efficient appliances and swapping out light bulbs, recycling, and using less energy on washing clothes. Those were three of the top four overestimated actions in the report.

Dogs are big meat eaters, and meat is a significant contributor to climate change. That is because many of the farm animals, which will become food, release methane, a greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. Beef is especially impactful, in part because around the world cattle are often raised on land that was illegally deforested. Since trees absorb carbon dioxide, the most abundant greenhouse gas, cutting them to then raise cattle is a double whammy.

“People just don’t associate pets with carbon emissions. That link is not clear in people’s minds,” Zhao said.

Not all pets are the same, however. Zhao owns a dog and three rabbits.

“I can adopt 100 bunnies that will not be close to the emissions of a dog, because my dog is a carnivore,” she said.

The owner of a meat-eating pet can lower their impact by looking for food made from sources other than beef. Zhao, for example, tries to minimize her dog’s carbon footprint by feeding her less carbon-intensive protein sources, including seafood and turkey.

Bunnies eat lots of CO2 absorbing plants and emit plenty of methane. But of course the leftist sees no problem with their own choices. Ask Australia about bunnies.

Many leftists refuse to have children.......

++++++++++

This is not a bad thing. This leftist jihad against dog ownership meshes nicely with the throat cutters hatred of dogs. F*ck them both.

Tell us, CALEIGH WELLS, Climate choices reporter, what is your scientific background to make these assertive statements and judgements as to what human activities makes major effects on climate?

According to the University of Southern Califronia, she is a Master of Science. Says so right on her Linkedin page:

University of Southern California
Master of Science - MS, Journalism

Her undergraduate degree doesn't appear to be quite so scientific:

Washington and Lee University
Bachelor of Arts (BA), Triple Major in Journalism and Mass Communications, Sociology, Politics

avoiding plane flights

Yes, too much commercial air travel by the 99.9% cause delays for the 0.1% flying on their private jets to climate change conferences.

I just saw a video of a fat AA 27 yr old woman with 7 kids who was pregnant with twins.

She alone will cost taxpayers easily $10 million in SNAP, housing, daycare, school, Medicaid, disability and prison costs- taking into account that each of those kids will spawn at least 10 each with the example their spawner sets.

There is your carbon BS right there.

I am tired of hearing about the religion of “climate change.” My impression is that it’s on life support. There are the true believers constantly writing or consuming climate change content, but the greater bulk of society has moved on. Society has passed through the rainbow world, the trans insanity and is now entering saner spaces.

I agree with you 100%. The Democrats are basically a doomsday cult with their warmageddon religion. And a child sacrificing cult with their abortion. And a hedonism cult with their LGBTQWERTY push they tried to force onto others, even kids in school. The Dims push their cult beliefs way more than they push their actual political ideas.

Suck it Gaia Worshipers.

Leftist are truly insane. They are very much like a religious cult.

That's exactly what it is. Socialism is a failed 19th century secular religion. The new religion for globalists that sprang up in the late 20th century is Gaia Worship. Of course, most Gaia Worshipers are really Watermelons....ie the same old red socialism under a green wrapper. The Gaia Worship is a convenient cover.
