She's the incumbent Lt. Governor who was elected in her own right. And far from the only black conservative in elected office now or who has won elected office.
(Tim Scott was appointed, before anybody says anything).
Tim Scott was an *elected* member of the US House of Representatives when he was appointed to the Senate and has been *elected* multiple times since then.
She was elected Lt Governor because everyone knows that that position is toothless. When it comes to winning statewide elections for important positions like governor and Senator, black conservatives routinely lose. Herschel Walker, Michael Steele, Alan Keyes, Mark Robinson, Kari Lake, Daniel Cameron, Ken Blackwell, John James, etc. in many of these races, the Republican candidate was the favorite. In all of the races, the black conservatives significantly underperformed expectations. These candidates do not attract any black voters, and they alienate a section of the Republican base. There is a reason why in the past, Larry Bird, and in the present Caitlyn Clark, drove up white viewership, and Tiger Woods drove up black viewership during his years on the PGA tour.
