I never paved a rose garden
For comparison, Lynn Anderson’s 1970 hit:

Fun fact: Writer Joe South never intended for a woman to sing the song.
The black guys would play "Someday,We'll Be Together"...over and over...and the white guys would play Joe South's song...over and over.
Aaaahhh....memories.
I recall very clearly when Lynn Anderson had a big hit with that song in 1970. It was fresh and catchy.
This was a few months after
“I’m Your Venus!” hit number one. Sung by Dutch group named
Shocking Blue. For several years, I thought the singer was saying something else in the title, not ‘Venus’.
I believe Martina opened for Garth Brooks at the Wisconsin State Fair in 1992.
Martina has great eyes.
I don’t know much about her singing talent because I’ve never paid attention.
Lynn Andersen. Period.
I never promised you a morose garden.
I hope you are having your impression of her eyes having seen them in person....cause back in the day it was called photo touch up...now it’s basically digitally enhanced...either way...a fraud.
What a voice that angel has!!
That right...you better look before you leap...still waters run deep...
Hey, where’s my choker, wandering baseline, and violins?
Never seen her in person.
I just remembered her eyes being distinct in a 1990’s music video.
Maybe she’s wearing really blue contact lenses.
That’s one of my favorite Lynn Anderson songs. She was my favorite female country singer of the era. No one has replaced her talent.
It was a perfect pop song of that era, smooth strings that appealed to mom and pop, Lynn’s voice that made it “country”, and an uptempo singalong lyric that resonated with coming out of the Vietnam war and trying to make sense of it. #1 Country, #3 Billboard Hot 100, and #5 on the Easy Listening Singles chart.
Joe South was a gifted songwriter and a great talent himself. Rose Garden was the 99th most-played record on US radio and TV of the 20th century.
I’ve never liked the song. The original release was by Billy Joe Royal, which now hearing it again, I remember this version very well, and just figured out why I’ve never liked the song. :^)
