My neighbor had two of her horses killed in their pen when a live wire came down in the road during a storm. The electricity traveled from the road to the pen about 60 feet away and fried the poor critters. Not sure what the voltage was but there was enough juice to set the road on fire and melt the asphalt.

I’d have to differ there. The vet that I donate euthanized livestock to stipulates that the subject has to be shot, as the chemicals in euthanasia drugs would be consumed in the meat. A bullet to the head is generally more humane that the drugs anyway. Sometimes the drugs will illicit an undesired result.

It means that people (some) place their dogs on a level with humans. They had dogs instead of children. Mis-placed belief in the sacridness of the human.

I always say: dogs are people too. And I get that questioned look.

So most probably the pony was shot dead. Yes, it’s better not to think about the fate of a pet, but if this made the pony ultimately suffer less, so much the better.
While I am not against eating meat or having animals as companions or helpers, I am definitely not in favor of causing unnecessary suffering to them.
