'No-one was expecting this': European leaders rush to US to help Ukraine avoid 'capitulation'
BBC ^ | Aug 18 | James Landale

European leaders may have rushed to Washington ostensibly to throw a protective arm around President Zelensky and head off any repeat of February's Oval Office bust-up.

But their real aim is to stop US President Donald Trump threatening long-term European security after his abrupt change of course over how best to end the war in Ukraine.

Not only did Trump drop calls for a ceasefire as a prerequisite for talks about long-term peace, he also - diplomats say - made clear he had no intention of imposing further economic sanctions on Russia.

In short, the travelling European heads of government – plus EU and Nato leaders - want to avoid not just confrontation, but also capitulation.

President Macron of France was the latest to use the C word, saying on Sunday: "There is only one state proposing a peace that would be a capitulation: Russia."

US out of NATO.

There are no free countries in Europe so what would we be defending? Globalist ruling classes who want us dead?

A world war would be a great way for them to get rid of the USA, Russia, and their own indigenous working classes.

The only reason the Euroweenies of Muslim Europe are here is to protect their grift.

They could care less about Ukraine, Russia or the US. It’s about stealing our money. $

LOL - same lame false accusations with no substantiation. You people really need to get some new material. 😄

And you cry and whine when we don’t take zeepers seriously.

I’ve never taken you Democrats seriously.

The EU might type something up that Putin will sign on to.

The EU can find out exactly what Ukraine wants by phoning Kiev and the EU should have a pretty good idea what the Russians want.

The EU peace proposal could be presented to Putin via Hungary. Brussels could disavow any concessions by saying the Hungarians modified the Brussels document.

Another possibility is to have Hungary (or Turkey) type up a peace proposal.

The Ukrainian bargaining position is deteriorating. The Russians are now credibly demanding territory they haven’t won militarily.

Also, about 100 Russian and 100 Ukrainians are getting killed each day.

Europe told Reagan no to Pershing ll missiles. They got what they wanted, so now deal with it.

I’ve read about the 2022 peace deal. It wasn’t going to fly outside the Russian Federation.

“The most detailed and revealing segment of the draft peace treaty dealt with Ukraine’s demilitarization. Russia called for the Ukrainian army to be drastically reduced to a skeleton force of just fifty thousand personnel. This was approximately one-fifth of the prewar total and a tiny fraction of Ukraine’s current military, which is believed to number around one million soldiers.”

https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/ukrainealert/putins-2022-peace-proposal-was-a-blueprint-for-the-destruction-of-ukraine/

Ukraine will not cede its ‘sacred’ territory. Ukraine is going to have to tolerate occupation, but expect no official sanction of that by Kiev or any Western government.

My suggest:
The Russian Federation and its forces shall not engage in hostile action south of the following front lines:
....
Ukraine and its forces shall not engage in hostile action north of those lines.
....
Ukraine and its forces shall not take hostile action against any part of Crimea or its infrastructure.

Hostile action shall be interpreted to also mean sponsorship or material aid to paramilitaries or to any group or person who acts or is preparing to violently act contrary to this peace agreement.

Oh, my. Those sentences were certainly and 0 for 3.

That doesn’t make any sense.

You should probably find a better Ukrainian to English translator.

“Excuse me but since when was Ukraine an ally of the UK, US etc? “

Since every administration since Ukraine’s independence from the Soviet Union has supported its independence and every administration since 2012, including Trump 2017-2020, has helped Ukraine with military means to defend itself. If Ukraine is not worth supporting, then neither is it worth supporting Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, or Poland, or now Finland. And if they are not worth supporting then NATO is not worth supporting.

Such prospects are not “America First”, just America isolationist, and we know our isolationists in the past led to wars we had to join, for our own interests.

America First that believes our strength can be used to prevent wars does not pretend aggressors can be rewarded for the wars they start.

You made three claims, each dumber than the one before. Now you’ve added another.

I don’t need a translator for English, my one and only.

“”””Europe told Reagan no to Pershing ll missiles. They got what they wanted, so now deal with it.””””

Those missiles did go to Europe.

“Zelenskyy himself used to be a fixture on Russian television.....”At the time, the relationship between Ukraine and Russia was not unlike the one between the United States and Canada.”

ROFWL - As if that was so meaningful to Putin that he decided to invade Ukraine.

Context, Context, Context and your reference has NO context at all to the Russia-Ukraine relationship today.

Again, you make no sense.

Why are you zeepers all such annoying little gnats? Go away.

I don’t need a translator for English, my one and only.

Well, that’s just sad, then, because your English is pretty poor.

No, go away, please. You have become quite tiresome. You may have the last word if that’s what you’re all about.

Bye. 👋

Hi Allegra,
I have noticed that the zeepers blabber almost exactly, and word-for-word the same talking points as the lying msm, the ratty Dems, and the rest of the warmongering neocons.
Coincidence, I think not !! :)

“A lot of people don’t know, but just before this war began, Ukraine basically had an agreement to prevent it, and Boris Johnson (then UK Prime Minister) rushed in to tell Ukraine no.”

A lot of people don’t know that that story is a giant half truth. Boris Johnson could not “tell Ukraine” to accept or reject anything. (1) All he could do was express his opinion and (2) the Ukraine government independently rejected the Russian proposal because it was 100% favorable to Putin and 0% favorable to Ukraine.

“I don’t understand how the security conditions being discussed are really any different from NATO involvement...”

They are not. They are de facto NATO protection. If that is suddenly acceptable to Putin then it blows apart the hoax that his invasion was over the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO. What is the difference between getting Article 5 security guarantees from the NATO countries and being a member of NATO - zilch.

Putin’s hoax of a cause for the war is equal to the Dims Russia, Russia, Russia hoax.
