If Edward G. Robinson is in a movie, I will automatically watch it. No need to read the reviews first. Humphrey Bogart and Bette Davis (and a few others) are also in that category.

Maybe it’s just me. But I can’t think of any of today’s actors who also belong in that group.

No, it's absolutely NOT "just you"; todays actors and actresses can't act their way out of a torn and wet brown paper bag!

I have quite a few of the old all time greats, whose movies I will watch and rewatch endlessly, as I have them on discs. The likes of Bette Davis and Edward G. NEVER were in a "bad" movie!

I like his movies where he plays against the stereotype.

This movie is one of them; it was on TCM a month ago and I recorded it. Another was A Dispatch from Reuters, a biopic about the founder of the Reuters news service.

One of these counter-character movies that I liked was Brother Orchid, possibly the movie that Robinson made to break the stereotype that let him make more diverse films.

Totally agree on Robinson, great actor. In “Double Indemnity” he makes actuarial tables sound interesting.

I'm with you on that one. Two other great movies I recommend from that era are "Kings Row" and "Green Dolphin Street". I think Kings Row is one of the greatest movies ever made.

I grew up watching old B&W movies as they played late night and my Dad was a niteowl and let us stay up late on the weekends. This was before cable and all the channels you get now.
