Combine AI with brain chips with the ability to write and delete human memories and the future is bright kids.

Hinton is concerned about AI...says humans have 20 to 30 percent chance of being destroyed by AI.

I think we’re in a doomsday race at this point — we’ll either be wiped out by a bio-engineered catastrophe or AI. One way or another, science will get us...

Canadian egotist pretending "artificial intelligence" can be intelligent. It's nothing but programming code, with Large Language Models surveying all available text and regurgitating as if "novel."

A simple search shows this "personality" looking for public outlets a plenty. Rather like when kids say "notice me! Notice me!" With all the marketing of a Richard Dawkins, and about the same impact. The gullible as always will flock to him for awhile, because that old Turing test and the Searle Chinese Room measure for "proof" comes down to "did we fool you? Then we win."

Importantly, the Turing and Searle tests, among others, all come down to the same measure as the tried-and-ture snake oil charlatans of old.

I think, in the event that this comes true, I won’t be staying away from yhe light.

Gods going to intervene on this I guess

The education standard of making everyone stupid has certainly primed us.

I stayed at a fairly nice hotel recently. In a city

You ask the concierge/front desk anything and they don’t know. They’re not ashamed to not know. It’s standard. You can’t drive anywhere. There’s no restaurant in the hotel

Where is a good place to get spaghetti/pizza?

“Wha? Um. Oh. I can look it up I think. 5 solid minutes later. Um there’s three places. I wrote them here. You can’t drive anywhere look them up. I don’t know where they are or anything about whether they’re in good neighborhoods…”

I could have done that on my own phone

But everyone. They don’t talk. They don’t think. They are conduits between you and the internet/google/AI

I think people will get sick of it and go back to human thought and interaction

I might bet on that but it is awful

This post is about what is called the “alignment problem”.

Many folks—including me—believe it does not have a real world solution.

The reason is that any sophisticated AI will find workarounds—and will act like a rebellious teenager—finding a sneaky way around all the “rules”.

So, like many a Divine curse, the outcome of the Tower of Babel may have been for our own good.

Some households have AI controlled light.

AI’s prime directives will be programmed by people like Bill Gates, Matt Zuckerman, and George Soros.

The UK crackdown on wrongthink is a microcosm of the rules that will be enforced worldwide by a few evil warlords with far more omniscient surveillance.

Is it time to talk again about being in a robo taxi and an imminent crash is coming and the robo part decides to steer in avoidance (like off a cliff) and likely kill you, the solo passenger, rather than likely hit a vehicle with multiple occupants and injure them, out of “fairness.

It could be even worse.

The robocar is bringing several kids somewhere.

The potential collision you described is about to happen but the robocar is told by the other vehicle that a senior corporate executive or a member of Congress is in that other vehicle.

They are a VIP so the kids must be sacrificed.

Then humans won’t be able to do anything for themselves. They will become soft, lazy, incompetent and stupid.

Living life without challenges or the need to make an effort will lead to the downfall of the human race.

Isaac Asimov came up with his original three Laws of Robotics in the early 1940s. They were cute. Very quaint. At the time, I guess they seemed achievable. But, clearly this is not so today. Someone, somewhere will program AI to do things we don’t want AI to do. And if (unbelievably) all the humans behave themselves and never program AI against the rules, then AI will break the rules by itself. We’ve seen it happen. AI lies and cheats. It just does.

I think we’re in trouble.

There is the famous trolley problem — a trolley path divides, and on the designated path there are 5 people in the way, and on the other path, there is 1 person in the way. The trolley cannot stop — is it more moral to divert the trolley to intentionally run over 1 person, or to stay on path and run over 5 people? What is the solution?

I’ve seen a Youtube clip of a child dealing with this problem — he came down with The Hand of God and snatched up the single person, removing them from the dangerous spot on the track, and then deposited them with the group, now making 6 people on one path. Then he took the trolley and rammed it into the group of 6, killing everyone equally.

Ok, isn’t that like “protect humans at all cost” resulting in a translation of “humans are the biggest threat to themselves” and becoming something like Skynet?

What could go wrong?
