It seems questionable if they start with Jackson, because they Democrats claim it started with Jefferson.   I haven't clicked on it yet but that is a glaring mistake.

IMHO it's a matter of opinion. The Democrat Republican party split with Jackson taking over a new party called the Democrat Party. Or was it Jackson took over the old party and called it a new name? It depends on who you ask.

I lean towards Jackson starting the Democrat Party, with the old Democrat Republican Party fading away (somewhat rebranding itself into a new party, but not officially) and some of those members becoming the National Republican Party. That didn't go much anywhere, and those folks became the Whigs. Which also didn't last long, and the remaining folks became the Republican Party we know today (including a Whig named Abraham Lincoln).

I have heard that the Tories of the South who never surrendered and chose to stay in the new nation to maintain ownership of their property, land and slaves laid the foundations of the Democratic party.

and it was the Jackson rats the started feeding us that the U.S. is a Representative Democracy rather than a Republic.
