Netflix's Smash Hit With 97% RT Score Becomes The Second Most-Watched Movie Ever In History

Netflix's new smash hit with a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score has become the streaming service's second most-watched movie in history. Since 2021, Netflix's most-watched movie of all time has been Red Notice, sitting at 230.9 million views. However, the star-studded action-comedy featuring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot could be unseated by Netflix's new smash hit very soon.

KPop Demon Hunters Becomes Netflix's 2nd Most-Watched Movie Of All Time How The Film’s Global Popularity Shattered Viewing Records

KPop Demon Hunters has become Netflix's second most-watched movie of all time. Netflix's animated musical follows the fictional K-pop girl group called HUNTR/X, who lead double lives as demon hunters, as they face off against a rival band, the Saja Boys, whose members are secretly demons in disguise.

KPop Demon Hunters' cast includes the voices of Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, Ji-young Yoo, Yunjin Kim, Joel Kim Booster, Alan Lee, SungWon Cho, Danny Chung, Liza Koshy, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Lee Byung-hun.

After another week on the streaming service, KPop Demon Hunters now ranks second on Netflix's Top 10 most popular movies of all time with 184.6 million views globally, ranking behind Red Notice's 230.9 million.

Disclaimer: I do not have Netflix. Also, this thread is to discuss this movie and the phenomenon of its success. The thread is not about Netflix's politics. Do not go there.

Prior to this article, I had never heard of the movie, Red Notice which is Netflix's biggest hit for now. Only last week I became aware of the show, KPop Demon Hunters which will soon be their biggest hit.

I became aware of the film because my Youtube and Facebook feed suddenly became full of Asain actors doing a meme of the dance moves of one of the songs from the show, "My Little Soda Pop". It peaked my interest to see what this was about and led me to the movie. "My Little Soda Pop" is specifically written to be a catchy pop tune to be sung by a airhead type boy band. It works. It will eventally become the song, parents will like to hate.

I suspect if you have kids or grandkids, you may have been inadverdantly hearing the song and the other songs from the show.

There is so much more than the fact that this is about to become the Netflix's biggest show ever. Although it is an American produces show, it is co-directed by a Korean woman who reached into her korean culture to create the story. Likewise, as you can see from above, most of the voice cast is Asian. Most of the voice actors are not well known actors.

I cannot find the production cost for the film, but I suspect it is quite low for today's hollywood. The cast costs were minimal. But it brings up a achilles heel. There are no stars to do concert tours. They also have songs with no persons attached to them. Most of the song singers were not even the voice actors.

Thai TV and other Asian production companies have found that making a show is just one aspect of the revenue stream of the shows. Thai companies extenisvely utilze merchandising, fan meetings, concert tours to maximize their intelectual properties. Everything is a marketing opportunity and they are raking in the money.

I’ve never even seen Red Notice on my Netflix list.

Never heard of either.
I DO remember when Netflix said “Girls” was a hit.
In reality it was a train wreck with Netflix trying to boost a failure.

That is not the offical version. I am surprise YouTube lets these get past their copyright screeners.

There are two offical version

NetFlix version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAyPTJFgFEs&ab_channel=NetflixK-Content

Sony Pictures version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=983bBbJx0Mk&ab_channel=SonyPicturesAnimation

Sony Pictures is the production company.

My 8-y/o daughter has probably watched it 100 times by now as well as downloaded the soundtrack off of Apple Music.

If a movie with the following plot can become the most streamed movie ever, that is sad commentary on the state of entertainment in the US:

“Netflix’s animated musical follows the fictional K-pop girl group called HUNTR/X, who lead double lives as demon hunters, as they face off against a rival band, the Saja Boys, whose members are secretly demons in disguise.”

KPop is a cute movie, good catchy songs, animated, and the demon hunters win and save the world.

One viewing was enough.

It’s no Black Hawk Down.

Animation is too childlike for my taste.

JMO, YMMV.

Oh my God! This is the best thing I've read all week. Some mundane Meghan Markle dross was
transformed by serendipity into a work of art. That bug is absolutely brilliant, worthy of Pasolini
or Fellini. Brilliant. That insect didn't ruin anything. It enhanced it.

Is this a ripoff of "Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter"?
