NEW: Chinese Coast Guard ship crashes into a Chinese navy destroyer as the two ships were both chasing a Philippine coast guard ship in the South China Sea.

Yikes.

Philippine patrol boats were escorting dozens of fishing boats when Chinese ships tried to intimidate them by blocking them and firing a water cannon, according to the WaPo.

Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson Jay Tarriela said the Chinese coast guard ship performed a "risky maneuver" during the chase, leaving it "unseaworthy" after the collision.

“Woah @ Video. Any (ex-navy) Freepers care to weigh-in?”

I'll repeat what a former Navy officer told me: the Red Chinese are building a lot of ships but they don't have a lot of experience operating task forces in blue water.

Contrast that with the U.S. Navy that has been operating carrier task forces for over 80 years. It is a complicated business.

Thanks to DEI, even our navy cracks up ships way too often.

Just because the Reds are building a lot of stuff doesn't mean they have the skills to use it effectively. Someday maybe, but not right now.

I can’t think the last time a Chinese navy won a victory on the seas.

The last time a fleet from China tried an amphibious invasion their fleet was wiped out by kamikaze typhoon in 1291 during the attempted invasion in Japan.

When USN skippers “hazard a vessel” they end up running tug boats down at Port Ops. The PLA Squids? They might end up facing a firing squad.........

Rather surprising a boat that big, moves like a small fishing boat.

Wondered about that. Gas turbines?

Also has a phased-array radar.

They sunk some money into that boat. Too bad they also have idjits commanding/driving them (for them - good for us and Philippines).

Wang Wei (王伟) was a Chinese naval aviator who died in a collision with a U.S. Navy EP-3 reconnaissance plane on April 1, 2001. He was posthumously honored as a martyr and a hero by China. The incident, known as the Hainan Island incident, sparked a diplomatic crisis between the United States and China
