There are two problems here:

1) The public servant, Cardwell, is an idiot and incompetent at handling firearms.

2) The public servant, Cardwell, was "uncomfortable" with a Citizen being armed. That irrational fear on the part of public servants must be stamped out like the plague that it is. Attention public servants: We the People are armed. Get used to it.

Bond Arms first made it in 45-70 before adding the .50 AE.

I guess if you're in bear country but don't want to carry a full size .44 magnum, .454, .480 Ruger, or .500 S&W magnum, a single shot .50 AE would work. I've seen where the original retail was $700+ but now see them below $450.

You can buy .50 AE from 300 grains to 460 grains. The 460 grains is subsonic.

I suspect most shooters who buy one for a conversation piece would load their own ammo at much lower power.
