Regardless of any politics or cultural leanings in this overall story, truth is elderly singles with no kids are not a tiny group and it is growing.
17% of 55+ are childless. Partners at that age come and go and the AI didn’t bother with an estimate.
Hope your wife is ok from the fall.
praying for you and family, as well as the ignorant woman and son, may the Holy Spirit convict them so they are forever reminded of your wife and their not helping.
A not too bright narcissistic pain in the ass. Too much work even for family members.
...yes, we have a Widows group which is assisted by men of the church for tasks and advice while the women form close bonds as shared grief is a better journey with those in a similar situation. Besides almost all are benefiting from a deepening faith! ... ymmv
Oh, and the 17% number was 55+. The older groups of 70 or 80+ that number is smaller, because they lived their lives n a different set of norms.
55-65 the number is 20%.
We are born alone and we depart from life alone. That is just the law of nature. Only thing that matters is the life in between those 2 events. If we tried our best to make a positive contribution for people around you and yourself then it was a success.
“Just because you have children doesn’t mean that they will be there for you.”
That’s so true. Hubby was a volunteer for Hospice for a few years. He was shocked that children didn’t visit their parents, whether in a facility or at home. And in about 75% of the cases, children lived within an hour’s drive. It was so sad.
If you hadn’t said something, I was going to.
You are better off not boring people with your health scares. I just spent the last two weeks holding vigil at the hospital.
In case anyone is tempted to feel sorry for her:

*******
LOL
I could care less about her perceived problem... She chose her life.
Of course its a complaint/sympathy piece by a woman. Men who are alone don’t take the time to pen such a thing.
“When mom was in the hospital (twice over the last 30 years of her life) we took shifts by her side. The hospital staff, especially the nurses, loved it.”
That happened in our family when Mom would be in the hospital. The nurses DID love it. They’d even take their breaks in Mom’s room because the atmosphere was so uplifting. (Then when she died in 2024, people said we “put the FUN in UFUNeral.)
Who’s fault?
So Kate Mulbey is 50 and looks 60, and has a case of testostero-phobia …
By her picture, I think we are presuming she’s a “natural” she.
Because someone as important and self absorbed as she is would have let you know about every minute she sat by someones bedside. She would have even written a column about it.
Thanks for the expose post. The narcisisim of the liberated leftist female is something to behold
When mom fully recovered from a stroke, the young, handsome doctor asked her what she would like for her lunch, as she might not be able to leave until later that day (hospital procedures). Mom said: "Well, I would really like a Gin & Tonic." The young, good looking doctor got a big smile on his face.
