I don’t think we have hit 90 in east Oregon all summer. Usually it gets in to the 100s for a week or so. I am loving it.
Yesterday was a scorcher in Wasilla, Alaska with temperatures in the low 70s. Today it’s much more bearable at 63°.
I had business in Tempe, AZ about three decades ago. I quickly learned to walk under shop and restaurant awnings where misters had been installed. Made a huge difference.
An air conditioner in a VW Beetle was about as common as a democrat with good moral character.
At least it was flat. Ever rowed the Rockies?
I get it.
I had a 68 VW in high school.
Here in the Big Valley, teens in the summer lived at night.
It made it tolerable.
Nice and cool here in WV today ... In the past, I have worked outdoor around Yuma, for weeks at a time, in mid-late summer. It gets interesting.
One year in Kuwait in August. 130 in shade. Armed Forces Radio and Television Network (AFARTS) came thru and set up a Christmas tree, etc. outside under a camouflage and recorded Christmas greetings from the military folks to broadcast in December back home. Odd.
That was my thought. I’d like to know where the temp readings were taken and whether the area around them as become more built up.
By the way. Currently in Northern Michigan, have seen 30s in August in past years (U.P.). Golf heaven right now.. ⛳
Mine was a ‘70. First year for the slits in the engine cover.
It still had the flat window. I kept a nylon net scrunchie next to the emergency brake to clean frost from inside the window about 6 inches from my nose: frost the heater—which worked great guns in the summer—could not touch for at least an hour or two.
And that “leatherette” upholstery! That was fun to sit on, in either freezing cold or shirtless in the heat we’re talking about.
It was a reliable little beast though. The silver chloride battery lasted nine years. No other repairs, just maintenance. Nice enamel paint too. I miss it.
I guess that’s why I liked the western part of Colorado better, but at my age I imagine health care facilities are less plentiful there, and maybe not the best places for the elderly.
It took over 4 months to see a neurologist here, I don’t know how that compares to other places. I have an emergency clinic 2 minutes away, a large hospital complex is 15 minutes away. I’m in a small town near a small city. The entire area has about 150k pop. I was able to get an MRI there quickly when the neurologist wanted one.
Where are you at?
I live in NJ. I get most all medical appointments relatively quickly and we have some top hospitals and their networks in our area. But, I’d wish the cost of living of New Jersey on no one.
Prescott Weather works out about Six
Weeks between Summer and Winter.
