Yup—that is 1,560 years to figure out some way to beat the speed of light and go zipping past the very antique probe.
Lol.
Sorry but the nearest “black hole”, if they really do exist, is so many hundreds of light years away, no earth made object or probe would ever get near it.
I sent a probe into a black hole once.
Her parents hated me.

My mistake. I thought this was another Jasmine Crockett thread.
It’s a great idea. We sent out space probes nearly 50 yrs ago, and they have travelled about 22 light HOURS.
How many light years away is the nearest black hole, and how many years would it take for the data to be sent back?
Kind of pointless cause if most of the theories about them are correct we wouldn’t get any data from the probe. Radio waves get sucked into a black hole just like light no?
So it’s a permanent employment project. Nice!
Lets put it this way—by the time the data is sent back the data will not be able to be interpreted by any human.
Any language that is was sent in could be an unknown antique dialect that could not be understood by anyone on the planet.
Even binary code probably would probably be obsolete at that point.
"Cosimo Bambi suggests that sending a spacecraft to closely study a nearby black hole could be possible"
Also, how many thousands or millions of years will it take to get there????
Astrophysicist my butt!
More like an Assholephysicist....
But enough about Jasmine crockett
And because of a reduced speed requirement, it'd be even better if it were heading straight towards us.
Well, maybe not.
Get a galaxy, astrophycisists.
..........J”ust tie a long string theory to it so it can find its way back.”
You’re right and thanks for the laugh.
The nearest known black hole is 1,500 light years away.
It’s been long established that they do exist.
Is this a reference to the Federal budget?
Stupid idea - once an object entered a black hole, we would get no information from it - it would disappear from us.
I dunno, the whole premise seems a lil rasiss to me.... 😉
