“High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is a form of cardiovascular exercise that alternates short bursts of intense activity with brief recovery periods.”
It’s basically how you’re supposed to train as a runner. You start off alternating between 1-1 minutes and then build up to 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, etc.

Also a derivative of “Fartlek training,” which is a Swedish term of “speed play.” As a competitive middle and long distance runner back in the back in the 1970s, my Fartlek training consisted of running full speed for two sets of telephone poles, followed by walking one set of poles, jogging one set of poles, and then full speed again for two sets of telephone poles, over several miles.
