The sixth amendment to the Constitution gives the accused the right “to be confronted with the witnesses against him.” This means the defendant can see and question the witnesses who testify against them. In addition the sixth amendment gives the accused the right to cross examine and challenge the credibility of witnesses against them.

If journalism today were truly a profession, and not a synonym for propagandists, news outlets would not print stories from anonymous sources. Reporters would demand accusers go on the record.

It is time for Republicans to band together and consistently and forcefully condemn the practice of making accusations based on unidentified sources. Simply say, “I will respond to your questions and accusations when you reveal your source and the source goes on the record. Until then, there is nothing credible to discuss.”
