This is a story with many twists and turns. Ultimately the Democrats will lose, I think, but I cannot fathom how this is a federal matter.

Beyond that, it's not like the legislators are in hiding.

I think Cornyn's announcement is just to prop up his chances against Paxton.

It’s a federal matter because a state asked for their assistance as they can’t go out of state to arrest them.

Your argument is much like states saying illegal immigration is a Federal issue so the state can’t help them one bit.

How many times do the Democrats have to keep pulling these same tactic before they change the law? If you flee the state in order to avoid your responsibilities as a government representative then your vote is not needed for a quorum

They crossed state lines in the possible commission of a crime, that allows the state to ask the fad to get involved.

Actually, not unusual to ask, just depends on if the feds decide to assist.

FBI aren’t going to aid in any significant way, except possible to help track their location. They aren’t going to arrest anyone because there are no criminal charges nor even a criminal investigation. Besides, if they were fugitives, it would be US marshalls that would be arresting them.

The optics of arresting them would play into the lefts whole “fascism police state” narrative and you KNOW the democrats will have media cameras around them ready to record it all.

John Cornyn has proved himself to not be trusted. Of late, he’s trying to get as much free face time as possible because he knows the people are done with him and his support and membership of the DC deep state.

"Texas Senator Says Trump’s FBI Agreed to Help Track Down and Return Runaway Democrats"

Interesting headline. Whether it is intentional or not it may incite some cartoonists to depict something ridiculous like this. Of course many if not most of those slaveholders were democrats. :-)

This is literally one of the primary functions of the FedGov. When lawbreakers leave the state’s jurisdiction, it’s time for the Feds to step in to preserve order and the law.

Trump’s FBI?

These people really think it’s a private police force

Do all the ‘Biden FBI gymuys’ automatically quit when a new president comes in? Em. No.

The federal government should appoint federal examiners to determine the adverse affects of runaway hiding representatives on the district voters they “represent” per the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

He added that “if you haven’t broken federal law” and are in his state, “there’s no way” you can be arrested by the FBI.

U.S. Constitution, Article IV, Section 4:

The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government

I would argue that by refusing to perform their duty to convene, that the 2025 flee-baggers are interfering with Texas having a Republican form of government, and the FBI can enforce the federal guarantee.

If you commit a murder in state A and flee to state B you have not committed the federal crime of murder. Your federal crime is being an interstate fugitive.

“I cannot fathom how this is a federal matter.”

Interstate flight to avoid arrest. Simple. Already a federal law.

“”I think Cornyn’s announcement is just to prop up his chances against Paxton.””

With all due respect... you are right about that (at least...lol). Cornyn’s play-acting like he’s ‘not’ a rabid leftist at his core. But most of us have seen through him like glass.

Cancel their credit cards and smart phones. Both are state property. Refuse to process any expense reports from the day they left. You’ll be amazed at how fast they reappear.

Here is the deal.

Cornyn’s letter accused the absent Democrats of possible criminal acts, without citing any evidence, saying “they may be guilty of bribery or other public corruption offenses.
The cost of the chartered aircraft and the hotel stay was paid by a contributor which constitutes a bribe.   Then whoever it is acting behind the scenes would constitute public corruption felonies which the FBI would be interested in.

I'll never forget that my Congressman Pat Swindall went to prison after a sting operation.

But in 1987, in an effort to finance his new $1.2 million home in Stone Mountain, Swindall accepted a $150,000 check from Charles LeChasney, who was later accused of laundering drug money. Swindall returned the check several days later.

Even so, he was later indicted on a charge of lying about the exchange before a federal grand jury. The prosecutor was Bob Barr, a fellow Republican who himself would be elected to Congress several years later.

The Feds like to get involved with this sort of thing.   In that case it was the Democrats that were behind it.   But hey, turnabout is fair play.

Another example of John Wayne McCornyn having to play like he’s a conservative because he’s scared he’s going to get primaried. Maybe if he’d put on his cowboy hat and boots and ride around on a four wheeler we’d all be more impressed.
