We live in North Idaho and travel in the NW a lot. There are invasive species check stations for all watercraft in WA, ID, and MT at stateliness. All watercraft must stop for inspections.
But that doesn’t solve intra-state introduction of invasive species from one contaminated lake or river to a pristine lake.
So I can understand the need for this if it improves awareness of invasive species and how to prevent it.
I’ve seen the damage done by invasive fish and aquatic plant life. They will quickly wipe out native fish and choke a lake with weeds.
$20 isn’t much to pay to help prevent that.
Can’t say the Democrats are at it again with their boot-heal politics standing on the throats of the citizens. No, can’t say they’re at it again because they are always at it. Personal freedom for the people is obviously perceived by them as a threat to their power. Oh so communistic!
Oregon does have a tax on bicycles. Oregon also has a hidden sales tax.
Nova Scotia just banned hiking in the forests with $25,000 fines.
The money isn’t going to do a damn thing to prevent it. It is just a money grab.
Government is expensive, and if the feds aren’t going to just print debt to fund it, everybody needs to become the other guy and pay the tab.
The problem is people believe them when they say that is what it is for. Think USAID at the state level. A small percentage will go to any effective measures.
One would think that this constant taxation on anything that moves would encourage the effort to add a substantial part of the state to Idaho.
I assume they are referring to humans.

In asives like Largemoth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Black and White Crappie, Bluegill, Warmouth, Walleye, Shad, Striped Bass...all invasive in Oregon, and all sportfish.

Awareness and maybe training. Both valuable. They’ll probably send out a pamphlet with your permit.
Try sneeker-shoe tax on walkers next, maybe backpacking too, as the information leaflets have to be attached and seen outside the backpack 🎒 for approval. And a sound disruptive permit too, so not to disturb the native species.
