Thanks for the response. But I don’t think it’s a good enough reason. An audit of Fort Knox would not be a major national effort. It would be a relatively small thing, easily delegated to a competent minor official.

But the optics of doing something like this, which I believe needs to happen, would drive the Democrats and the Media (but I digress) into a frenzy, probably accusing Trump and Republicans for looting the treasury. Trump can always issue an executive order for the CBO to conduct the audit annually.
