Wildfires are a natural part of the ecology. Preventing them until the flammable biomass builds up to catastrophic proportions is not natural.

And for at least the past 100 years these unmanaged forests did not burn, despite lightening storms that must have happened over that time. Why now?

The underbrush is no longer being harvested by brush pickers.

The small trees are not cut down for paths.

Roads that were once numerous, giving access for logging, offroading and camping, no longer exist.

In America, it was Clintons roadless initiative for forest lands, and I am sure the same in Canuckistan.
