Vegas priced itself out of business. You use to get great hotel rates, affordable meals and shows. It’s all shifed high end now. Nothings cheap, let alone mid-range. Maybe that model works, I don’t know. Not for me though. Not for what Vegas is.
It was better when The Mob ran it.
Beat me to it.
“Vegas priced itself out of business. You use to get great hotel rates, affordable meals and shows.”
It was great in the ‘70s and early ‘80s.
We visited in the mid-’90s, and saw a definite change for the worse. It had gone from am adult spot to way too many kids.
Back in the last century, there were a lot of bargains to be had in Vegas. Coupons for eating places, shows, motel rooms and free chips were widely available, ridiculously inexpensive meals such as $3.00 prime rib could be had, and parking everywhere was free. But that was a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.
THIS! Used to be the rooms and entertainment was cheap, and they got their money out of you by gambling. Now they try to bleed you for everything.
And by everything, I mean everything. Freebies for the players are down, and rates are up. Now most of the casinos also charge a resort tax and some charge for parking.
The bean counters charge you for everything. Even the food costs are high.
YES. And it's also merely closely tied to corporate spending than ever before.
I belong to an industry association that has a yearly convention. It used to be every-other year in Las Vegas.
Members complained about many things with the various hotels and general atmosphere, and the conference has since been permanently moved elsewhere.
11 years ago was the last time I was there, and it was already getting bad. Between the high prices of everything to the # of panhandlers/”Buskers” on the strip, it ain’t worth it. Bring back $40 rooms at Excalibur and $1.99 steak and eggs. I’ll consider coming back.
