imho....this violates Trump’s purpose for tariffs...to level the playing field...i.e., fair trade... See posts #'s 2 and 5. I'm a free trader too. But my idea of free trade involves the other side dropping their tariffs and import restrictions. What we've had for years with India (and other countries) isn't even close to free trade ... even before Trump. If Trump causes them to lower their tariffs and import restrictions for the first time in practically forever, then it's moving us closer to free trade.

Turns out it was all bait and switch campaign rhetoric. Great Britain had a trade surplus with us and he still slapped a tariff on them for the "priviledge" of selling things to us.
What was supposed to be a means of protecting American workers from cheap Chinese labor has morphed into a tool to humiliate former allies and harden the resolve of our enemies.
It will be all fun and games until the dollar stops being used for international transactions by Trump's growing list of foreign enemies.
