The U.S. goods trade deficit with India was $45.8 billion in 2024, an increase of 5.9% from 2023.
This deficit is driven by higher U.S. imports of goods from India compared to its exports. U.S. goods imports from India totaled $87.3 billion in 2024, while U.S. goods exports to India were $41.5 billion.
The predominant products imported by the U.S. from India include mineral fuels and oils, pearls and precious stones, nuclear reactors and boilers, and electrical machinery.
On the export side, major U.S. goods exported to India include engineering goods, electronic goods, gems and jewellery, pharmaceutical products, and petroleum products.
That’s curious. India’s domestic oil production is < 1 million bpd and they consume about 5 mbpd. If they are exporting fuels and oil to the US, it had to come from oil they imported from elsewhere.
