It may be the insulin surge any sweetness causes that could become counter-productive, as they appeared to have adjusted for obesity and other factors.

I’d wager that most Americans drink at least one per day, especially if juice is included.

LOL!! I started drinking diet caffeine-free Pepsi only after I’d already been diagnosed with Type II diabetes. 25 years later, I’m still controlling my glucose with diet and oral medication.

It’s getting so you can’t drink anything that has any flavor at all. Just water (until they find out it’s bad for you too).

Since I average 4 a day, I should be good.

My go-to sugar free supplement is not an artificial sweetener
Stevia is not classified as an artificial sweetener; it is a natural sweetener derived from the leaves of the Stevia rebaudiana plant.

I worked with a very large woman, who probably weighed 350lbs. I began noticing her weight loss. When asked how she lost it, she said she substituted soft drinks with water. If I recall, the soft drinks she had drunk were sugar free. At that point, she had lost 80 lbs! (I only drink 1 can of coke zero per day, sometimes not even that. I’m not willing to give that up.)

Drink any natural tea. Black, green, from flowers, chai, turmeric tea. They all are beneficial to health. I add few drops of clover honey instead of sugar. Honey had stronger sweetness so I need less.
