Accuracy of my memory
08/03/2025 | self

Posted on 08/03/2025 7:47:04 AM PDT by Daveinyork

I'm wondering if my memory is accurate. I seem to remember that some people there were some people who tried to convince a Greek American to smuggle money supposedly for Trump from Greece to the US.

He suspected a trick and turned the money over to his lawyer in Greece. When he landed in America, he was searched, but when they didn't find the money, they arrested him anyway.

Does anyone else remember this?

IIRC, I believe that was Papadopoulis. They offered to pay him $10k for something which he suspected and left behind.

The All-Seeing, All Knowing Grok doesn't know about it.
I couldn’t find a specific story matching the exact details you described—a Greek American being approached to smuggle money from Greece to the USA to support Donald Trump, turning the money over to a lawyer in Greece, and being arrested in the USA despite no money being found. I searched through available web sources and posts on X, but no such case aligns precisely with your query.

The closest related information involves various reports about Greek Americans and legal issues, but none fit your narrative:

It’s possible the story you’re referring to is a rumor, a misreported event, or not widely covered in available sources.

You are describing George Papadopoulos, who received $10k from a guy outside the U.S. George was suspicious of the circumstances of the transfer and left the cash outside the U.S.

His treatment at arrival in the U.S. seemed to indicate that he was the target of entrapment. He was arrested despite not having the cash.

In my estimation, any lack of details regarding who supplied the money and why, and why the authorities intercepted George at the airport, would constitute proof that the conspiracy against Trump and his Presidential campaign continues.

Yes. If memory serves he was paid to do a report on Israeli energy. But when he was paid $10,000 in cash he was suspicious and left the money with his Greek lawyer. They were waiting for him when he arrived in the US and were upset that he didn’t have the money with him. Which means they were expecting him to have the money with him, which means it was a setup.

This is George Popadopalous. The crazy thing about this is that he put out a couple episodes of a podcast detailing the entire thing. I have tried to go back and find the podcast but it has disappeared.

I have asked Grok and ChatGPT about it and they can’t answer it.

I am 100% sure I listened to it. He detail the whole ordeal including receiving $10k from Israelis, giving it to his lawyer and then being stopped and searched immediately after getting off his plane.

Why would Grok hide this story?

Papadopoulos to head to Greece to retrieve $10G payment, says it was intended to entrap him

Former Trump adviser George Papadopoulos told Fox News' Maria Bartiromo in an exclusive interview that he is heading back to Greece to retrieve $10,000 that he suspects was dropped in his lap as part of an entrapment scheme by the CIA or FBI -- and federal investigators want to see the marked bills, which he said are now stored in a safe.

Papadopoulos said on "Sunday Morning Futures" he was "very happy" to see Devin Nunes, R-Calif., grill former Special Counsel Robert Mueller about the summer 2017 payment during last week's hearings -- even though Mueller maintained, without explanation, that the matter was outside the scope of his investigation.

"I was very happy to see that Devin Nunes brought that up," Papadopoulos said. "A man named Charles Tawil gave me this money [in Israel] under very suspicious circumstances. A simple Google search about this individual will reveal he was a CIA or State Department asset in South Africa during the '90s and 2000s. I think around the time when Bob Mueller was the director of the FBI.

What the Hell? Now I checked with Grok and this is what I got:

You’re likely referring to the George Papadopoulos case, a Greek-American former Trump campaign aide. The incident you described aligns with some details from his 2017 experience, though parts are murky or unconfirmed. Here’s what’s known:
Papadopoulos was approached in 2016 by a contact, later identified as Charles Tawil, who offered him $10,000 in cash in Israel, allegedly for consulting work. Suspecting a setup, Papadopoulos reportedly left the money with a lawyer in Greece before flying to the USA. He was arrested in July 2017 at Dulles International Airport, but no money was found on him. He later pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russian operatives, not smuggling. Some online discussions, like on FreeRepublic.com, speculate this cash was part of an entrapment scheme tied to the Trump campaign, but no official records confirm the money was meant to support Trump directly.

I guess Grok starts by answering with a lie (nope, never heard of this), and gradually tells the truth?

Wouldn’t bringing the bills back just cause him to get arrested again? Why not send a US Marshal (or whoever) and a US Treasury forensics expert to meet with the Greek man and his lawyer at the bank in Greece?

I search George Papadopoulos $10,000, and the story was on the first page. Yes it was too hard for grok to find it

Why would they arrest him now? It’s all in the open, and any further FBI action would help the Trump admin investigation of those same rogue agents.

It would be a full honey pot trap.

No, they’d be smart to do nothing involving George P again.

The All-Seeing, All Knowing Grok doesn’t know about it.

GIGO Garbage in, Garbage out. Whether AI or normal database, computers depend on what is fed in. If the NYT and Babylon Bee data are treated as fact the output is strange.

The young man’s antennae were well developed.

Sometimes you don’t know what’s up, but you get a pretty good feeling that something just might be up. That nobody’s telling you about. Because you’re being set up to be the fall guy.

So you end up doing something somewhat different than what you might have done otherwise.

And the best laid plans of mice and men against you end up falling through.

It’s a beautiful thing.

For some reason (maybe because This Guy has been developing a Quantum of Wisdom with age and a few grey hairs), yours truly has seen things happen that way multiple times in the past six years or so.

Stay attentive, my friends!
