Sauce for the gander: Jack Smith gets a special counsel of his very own

Sure, the election is over. But Sen. Tom Cotton would like a few loose ends tied up.

According to the New York Post:

The Office of Special Counsel has launched a formal investigation into Jack Smith, the first official legal probe into his conduct, The Post has learned. Smith is the justice department lawyer who oversaw two criminal investigations into President Donald Trump during the Biden administration, one into Trump’s handling of classified documents, the other as to whether his actions on Jan. 6th, 2021, were an attempt to overturn the 2020 election. Both cases were dismissed. An email reviewed by The Post states The Hatch Act Unit, which enforces a law restricting government employees from engaging in political activities, has begun reviewing the former Special Counsel for the United States Department of Justice. The email was written by Senior Counsel Charles Baldis at OSC. "I appreciate the Office of Special Counsel taking this seriously and launching an investigation into Jack Smith’s conduct. No one is above the law.

Jack Smith’s actions were clearly driven to hurt President Trump’s election, and Smith should be held fully accountable,” said Senate Intelligence Committee chair Sen Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) in a statement to The Post.

Jack Smith is a partisan Democrat who weaponized the law against President Trump to help Dems win. I’ve asked the Office of Special Counsel to investigate his actions that likely violated the law to influence the election. pic.twitter.com/64v6U3Y0wH

— Tom Cotton (@SenTomCotton) July 30, 2025 After all, a lot of us voted for President Trump precisely to stop this kind of lawfare garbage. We had to get Trump elected or it would keep happening, and getting worse. Nobody else in office would have made it their priority.

A little gift for Mr. Smith from the American voters. Hopefully there is a vacation package too.

I’ll believe it when I see it, if he gets indicted. We’ve been played for fools for far too long. “Schiff investigated for mortgage fraud, Letitia James investigated, Hillary involved in Russia collusion, Obama involved, blah blah blah” meanwhile 3 years passes not one indictment is handed down, we’ve been through this a triillion times before.

I take very little at face value these days.

Case in point:

Senator Tom Cotton is the chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. The SSCI is supposed to provide oversight on the intelligence community. Some folks argue their real purpose is to shield the IC from public scrutiny and accountability.

Cotton is also pushing legislation restricting Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard’s authority to declassify intelligence documents.

The appointment of a Special Council could just be a ruse to throw a blanket over further exposure by DNI Gabbard using the excuse that there is an “active investigation”. It is a stall tactic until the 2026 midterms.

We have seen this movie before. We just lived through it with Attorney General Bill Barr and Special Council John Durham during the first Trump administration.

Jack Smith did something that was apparently worthy of him having his license to practice law permanently yanked & maybe we could throw in a little jail time for him as well. This might even serve as an object lesson to others thinking of trying something similar.

Trump doesn’t have the balls to arrest anyone. It could already be done.

The race to become Mitch McConnell among the senate Republicans is just sad. Runner-up can be Pence, and third place will be Romney.

It’s another trap. His defense to the Hatch Act could be that he was not a government employee. If so, then he wasn’t legitimately appointed. Who authorized a non government employee to be paid?

Ah. Well. I’ll bookmark this thread and come back to it at some future point. We have the most consequential president of our lifetimes in office right now, and it is just not enough for many people.

Illegal Acting Special Counsel Jack Smith, resigned just before President Trump was sworn in his 2nd term as President.

Did he leave the country and disappear? Likely back from whence he came.

I searched for his new place of residence. Could not find a clue.

If the DOJ brings charges on him (likely) he will not be in the USA.

“How many people have you arrested?”

That was a retarded question since I am not the president.

The office of special council is a so-called independent agency. Beware of all independent agencies. They are unconstitutional. They are corrupt.

Retarded? First of all, the President can’t arrest anyone. Only law enforcement personnel can do that. Second. If your objective is to prosecute and convict in a legitimate court, you need lots and lots of evidence and getting that evidence is not easy and takes time… sometimes lots and lots of time.

So overall I’m thankful that reasonable people are in charge and not running around arresting people just to please impatient people like you. They are instead collecting evidence and planing their cases and from all I can see, doing it thoroughly and methodically. Sorry that doesn’t fit your TV show timeline but the real world is not a TV show.
