The Inca Empire stood no chance against the Spanish conquistadors, being about a thousand years behind them in technology. Space aliens could be millions of years ahead of us, or more.

Or only a little ahead of us. I liked Harry Turtledove's Worldwar series, in which an alien invasion fleet arrives on Earth in 1942, several centuries after their scouts had visited. The aliens have weapons that are ahead of ours, but not that far advanced, and the aliens have a generally slower rate of innovation.

Fun books. I'll probably reread them one of these years if aliens don't take over first.

I am not convinced of that. The Incas nearly wiped out Cortez. It was a very close thing. European tech was important (horses, steel, and history). If the Incas were not so susceptible to European and Asian germs, they might easily have won, or at least, survived.

I suggest The Discovery and Conquest of Mexico, by Bernal Diaz. He was a foot soldier who fought through the whole conquest with Cortez.

Exactly. Seriously the animals on this planet who are the prey of other animals tend not to advertise their vulnerability. Neither should we.
