August 9 is expiration of the declaration of martial law in Ukraine that Zelensky has been using to maintain his stranglehold on power.

And yup, sanctions are going to bite the people who have been obstructing the Trump peace initiatives and that more than just Russia.

China and the EU have very unhelpful to the cause of a peaceful resolution in Ukraine and they will now be highly incentivized to get the Ukraine to the table

IMHO, Trump has laid a lot groundwork and he has a pretty good plan to end the conflict in the Ukraine if things break in the right direction
