He was traded to the Cubs from the Phillies. The trade was suppose to be just Larry Bowa and the Phillies threw in Sandberg just to sweeten the deal.

Sandberg got his first hit with the Phillies as a September call up in '81. Ruly Carpenter sold the Phillies at the end of that season. Bill Giles then ran the show, and apparently didn't like Bowa. The cubs hired Dallas Green, who had been the Phillies farm director. Green swindled Giles getting Sandburg as a throw in with Bowa for Ivan DeJesus. Giles was cheap, and an idiot.
