And EU buys weapons from US arms manufacturers, too.

There were reports that Trump had asked Zelensky if he could hit Moscow or St Petersburg. Z said that he would need longer range weapons to do that.

It was a “Chekov’s Gun.” Why would he say that if it wasn’t a threat to Putin.

I figured they picked the 50 day deadline because it would be Sept 2–which is a significant date in history. And based on his “deadline” with Iran action (he gave them 60 days and bombed on day 61) I concluded that he would:

1. Deliver long range munitions to Ukraine.
2. He would state the deadline.
3. If the deadline was not met, he would unleash Ukraine to use the long range munitions to hit large Russians cities.

Trump is talking but Putin isn’t listening. Putin will continue with his goal.

They openly supported Iran, North Korea, the summit with Hezbollah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, etc. So why would that be a surprise?

Biden basically financed it by cutting back on our own supply.

Putin should accidentally fall out a high window.

“The absence of oil, for those old enough to remember, generated long lines at gasoline stations and imposing of license plate odd/even restrictions for rationing”

I was in college. I lived in a dorm and road a bicycle... I missed the whole affair, and never voted for Carter...

Nod. It was not Carter’s error. This was pre shale and conventional rock was simply, flat out, trailing consumption gains.

The overall point is that production increases were supposed to prevent those lines at the gas station. That failed, and the lines appeared.

Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6lb5NTQkWE
That was mild scarcity. Serious scarcity is when you get to the pump and get told there is no more, and really serious scarcity is when the truck carrying food gets to the pump and is told there is no more.

Punishing countries like India for not making economic sacrifices on behalf of Ukraine is absurd. Why should India have to buy more expensive oil or be slapped with higher tariffs because they, while disliking Putin’s war, recognize that it really isn’t any of their concern?

Because we do not want to fund Putin's war machine through oil.

And again.

This is not a choice. China and India buy Russian oil or they starve. There is no in between.

The trucks stop bringing food to grocery stores if they have no fuel.

Russia’s oil production break even price in 2024 was $41 per barrel. The second lowest in the world.
