‘He’s Talking’: Key Biden Official Reportedly ‘Cooperative’ In Testimony On Biden’s Use Of Drug

A top former official of the Biden administration is reportedly cooperating with a GOP-led probe into the final months of former President Joe Biden’s time in office, the first breakthrough that lawmakers have had after four previous testifiers refrained from speaking.

Ron Klain, the former president’s chief of staff who left his role in February 2023, is said to be cooperating with an investigation led by the U.S. House Oversight Committee, which is exploring whether aides to Biden knew about his mental decline and performed presidential functions without his knowledge. The committee had previously sought testimony from other members of the former administration, all of whom invoked their Fifth Amendment right against saying much of anything during their testimony.

Congressman Ro Khanna (D-CA), the committee’s ranking Democrat, said Klain declined to cite his right against self-incrimination when he arrived on Capitol Hill Thursday.

“I found Mr. Klain to be very credible. He answered every single question. He was fully cooperative. There are times where he was asked about personal conversations he had with the president, and he was forthcoming,” Khanna said.

“I really appreciate his candor and the comprehensive way he had answered every question.”

Khanna’s claim was supported by Congressman Andy Biggs (R-AZ), who replied when asked, “Yeah – when I say credible, I think he is telling what he knows accurately. I mean, he’s trying to be accurate. So that’s what I’d say.”

“In my opinion, he is not trying to avoid answering the questions. He’s answering the questions carefully. He’s saying the things that I kind of expected him to say,” Biggs said. “But he’s been answering the questions, I think, forthrightly and in the way he sees the world.”

Comer echoed the feedback of his colleagues, crediting Biden’s former chief of staff with answering honestly about what he saw occur around his boss during the first two years of his administration.

“I think we’re having a very good transcribed interview. Mr. Klain is being fairly responsive to our questions,” Comer told Fox News, adding the hearing would likely “go late into the afternoon.”

Although he declined to answer specifically about what questions Klain may have been able to shed light on, Comer maintained, “We’ve asked specific questions. Obviously, evidence emerges on a daily basis that would suggest Joe Biden wasn’t mentally fit to be President of the United States.”

Closed committee hearings typically offer both Republican and Democratic lawmakers each one hour of uninterrupted time to question a witness, and so far, no participants have come forward today to complain about the quality of Klain’s testimony.

He is the latest member of the Biden administration to testify since Annie Tomasini, the former president’s deputy chief of staff, declined to answer most questions under oath. She was preceded by Anthony Bernal, Jill Biden’s chief of staff, who was similarly silent under Fifth Amendment privileges.
