Astronomers had not had an opinion about Uranus "for millennia." It was discovered in 1781 by Sir William Herschel. I think it was later found plotted on star charts by astronomers who assumed it was a star, but not a lot of times. It is theoretically barely visible to the naked eye but so close to the limit that no one would notice it before the invention of the telescope or look for it before 1781.

Are any big celebrations planned for the 250th anniversary of its discovery? They might be overshadowed in 2031 by celebrations of Yorktown.
