Isn’t it sufficient to take calcium as a supplement?

2x600mg daily?

“Isn’t it sufficient to take calcium as a supplement?”

I don’t think so. I’ve always taken plenty of calcium supplement and still have osteoporosis.

In 1985 I had total left hip replacement, and bounced back SO fast even the surgeon couldn’t believe it. Eight weeks.

In 2005 I had revision surgery on the same hip. Back then, 20 years was about normal for revision. Again — bounced back quickly. Eight weeks.

In 2020 I had total right hip replacement. I was just reviewing my nightmare of notes and realized it was SIX months before I was “good to go”. I went to another surgeon for a second opinion as to why it was so long. He said that the pin in my thigh wasn’t settling in well because of osteoporosis.

Anyhow, I’ve been recommended Forteo where you give yourself a shot in your stomach once a day. Recommended Prolia which is staggeringly expensive. I would do it, but the side effects for all of these things are just awful. So I’m doing nothing except living my life and being careful.

Anyhow ... it seems that simple calcium supplements don’t do the job.

But Hubby has done something different which actually has turned around his osteoporosis, and bones are getting stronger. Every day starting about three years ago he has ODed on eating food with calcium, i.e., tons of milk, yogurt, cottage cheese. All of those things make me gag, so it isn’t an option for me.

Calcvium pills cannot be absorbed. Have to take liquid calcium. I take liquid calcium-magnesium . Prefer it in a glass bottle. Buy mine at local Natural Grocer, but available in many other places. As I recall, AMZ only has it in plastic.
