They declined and fell because they couldn’t remember how to spell Mississippian.

The ice cores do not lie. Neither do the tree rings. Neither does real geology.

I get a kick out of those who live in a false reality sold to them by Ussher. Ussher was a con man trying to gain favor with clergy and court. Rumor has it he even plagiarized his theory from previous primitive confused minds...

Maybe they couldn’t count: one Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi…..

There are literally living trees older than that delusion...

The ice cores do not lie. Neither do the tree rings. Neither does real geology.

“And there were also pre-Clovis people in the Americas over 100k ago.”

You mean the actual native Americans?

And the “age” of those trees is determined by what? Rocks? Fossils? Ice cores?

Modern naturalistic science is ruled by presuppositions and assumptions. Or do you believe in human induced climate change too?

When you begin your study with the assumption that the earth must be billions of years old, then you tend to only find what you are looking for.

The Black Sea was once a lake. Could the flood that connected it the the Mediterranean have destroyed earlier civilizations? The Mediterranean itself was also once landlocked, but that was probably way, way too far in the past. Is it really unreasonable to think that the era of “civilizations” was only a tiny fraction of humanity’s time on earth?

It could have been a pre-flood civilization that was wiped out by the deluge.

Read....Canticle For Liebowitz.

You tripped a logic gate with this comment.   Years ago, I read a review of a Sci Fi anthology that mentioned "A Canticle For Liebowitz."   I am not a Roman Catholic, so I had to look up what a canticle is.   When I saw the paperback in a used book store (now out of business), I bought it.   I thought of reading it several times and finally had it sitting on the top if a CD cubby hole above my monitor.   I grabbed it down, just now, and I think I'll finally read it.

“And the “age” of those trees is determined by what? Rocks? Fossils? Ice cores?”

Yes, Trees rings and ice core layers can be literally measured year by year. Every layer and every ring is a year. Just a fact observed from just the few short years since we have been documenting these.

Why would I believe in human induced climate change? That wasn’t even part of the discussion. But the fact is, based on ice core samples, the previous interglacial 125,000 saw higher temperatures and higher concentrations of CO2 than we have yet during this current interglacial. The CO2 is literally trapped in the ice...

The biggest telltale indicator of the the earth’s age is geological. We know how long it takes stone to metamorphose, weather, and erode. Ever study the Emperor Sea Mount chain? The age is not debatable as to how old it is based on plate tectonics and crustal movement over millions of years. We can actually measure this movement with laser instruments. Same with land rising over volcanic swells in the crust. So it gives us a very good estimate how long it took to move these things.

Young earth is just impossible based on the measurements we have already eye witnessed and accurately measured in real time over the last hundred years. Some scientific fact is just indisputable. Now was there a flood? Yes factual Geology also proves this. Did we Evolve? No I do not think so. But is the earth only 6K to 8K old? Absolutely impossible.

In the beginning, YHVH created the Heavens and the Earth.....and so on and so on.

Before THE Man (Adam) was created, there were unknown periods of time. Ha Adam, is not just Man, but The Man, the progenitor from which the Messiah would come.

Cain went to Nod, and built a life there. So there were other humans on Earth. From the OT through the NT into today, the Books are the story about the Race of man that came to us from Adam.

My belief has room for what we call Dinosaurs walking with humans, an Earth without ice continents etc.

I don’t know, and hope someday to know. Until then, I am enjoying my time here to the best of my ability.

I agree with you. I wouldn’t even put the age of the planet in the realm of beliefs. Earth has been around a long time.

A small codicile though, tree rings are not accurate, because trees can have more than one ring per year, depending on the climate. The best indicator is erosion, the burial depth of artifacts etc. When a geologist finds a river that has had 10’s or 100’s of thousands of flood stages, that means a lot of years. Maybe not millions, as in different climatic times, there could have been more than one heavy rain per year.

It must be fascinating to study and theorize. To gather data points and put them against the past and against others in the same fields.

I read a science fiction novel about a French expedition in Antarctica reveals the ruins of a 900,000-year-old civilization.

‘The Ice People’ is a 1968 French science fiction novel by René Barjavel

No. What i am saying is the period from Adam to Noah in the old testament, with all the important lessons on God and God’s relationship with humanity, and the seeds of what later develops with Abraham and the Hebrews, is incomplete as far as the total world, covering main events relative to the Middle East alone,

And like the period from Adam to Noah in all of that, there were other non-middle east civilizations after Adam and up to the flood left out of the old testament, BECAUSE their histories were not histories handed down to the peoples of the lands from which we get the Hebrews, which is who from we get the old testament.
