Stephen Colbert declared to Donald Trump that “the gloves are off” in his first broadcast since his Late Show was cancelled amid a political firestorm, as his fellow hosts lined up to defend him with Jon Stewart scathingly denouncing Paramount for trying to “censor and control” its hosts.
Colbert, the top-rated late-night talk show host in the US, said last week on his CBS show Late Night – which he took over from David Letterman in 2015 – that Paramount’s decision to pay a $16m settlement to Trump over another flagship CBS show, 60 Minutes, amounted to a “big fat bribe”. CBS is part of Paramount, which needs the Trump-controlled Federal Communications Commission to approve its $8bn sale to Skydance.
Paramount pulled the plug three days later, with Trump revelling in the firing of one of his most prolific detractors, posting on his Truth Social platform: “I absolutely love that Colbert was fired.”
Colbert came out swinging on Monday, telling Trump to “go **** yourself”.

“ Stephen Colbert declared to Donald Trump that “the gloves are off””
Get a job hippie
He means surgical gloves he wears while he puts his fingers up his butt. Now he’ll put his fingers up his butt without gloves.
Actually, I wonder if it’s because the USAID was cancelled.
lol…my money is on Trump.
Going forward, Colbert’s going to lose them even more. Trump’s lawyers will be watching episode, and Trump will goad Colbert into even greater fits of slanderous madness (ka ching!)
Somebody was willing to lose $40 million a year to keep the show on the air. Clearly the show was intended to do something other than make money.
The show must have ceased doing that other thing if somebody decided that it was no longer worth losing the $40 million a year.
So, the question is, what was the actual point of the show if not financial profit? That answer explains everything.
In common parlance, CBS should fire him now and call it a sunk cost. Nothing good will happen over the next 8-10 months.
I give him 2-3 weeks.
Sure Colbert, feel free to punch the sky. No one cares.
Without his platform and media echo chamber he is now a has been. Fade to black.
I will miss his show. I always have.
Dang, Stevie, what are you going to do, bleed on him?
these Late Night guys have absoluetly zero influence in the country. Johnny Carson averaged 5 times their viewers combined in a country with 100 million fewer people back then. Network television is a dying thing, especially unfunny late night shows. Heck, the NFL is now streaming playoff games with the ultimate goal of a streamed Super Bowl. Nothing gets higher ratings than football. Network as well as cable tv is fading away.
It was supposed to get Harris elected.
If I have to pay $100 to watch the Super Bowl on streaming, I'm not watching it. Especially with the quality not being there any longer.
Just a 2-bit punk weasel.
Paramount fires him ... but it must be Trumps fault!
This is how they think: “Trump made me stub my toe!”
He can’t continue to criticize Paramount, so Orange Man is bad.
These people are children.
Nobody listened when he had a job, so what makes him think we’re listening now ?
